What if spring…

What if spring could not bring
Freshness of soul.
Alertness of spirit.
Fitness of body.
What if the blue, shining sky of spring
Dropped a mountain of shells
That embraced,
Chased,
Encircled the feet
Of terrified men.
What if the light-heartedness of the spring breeze
Was mowed down by a sneeze
Of mass-destruction weapons
Slowing down the weakened pace
Of aimless, hopeless, hardened hearts.
What if the colorful brightness of flowers of spring
Would not be able to place
Their humbled, warm blessings
At the start
Of a dehumanising day.
What if the stars of a spring night
Shining generously bright
Could not heal the deep wounds
Of souls so deeply embroiled
In human dirt.
I assert there will be no spring, no light
Coming in sight
As long as man’s heart
Keeps cherishing hatred, greed
And might.
