How to spot a bootleg Gangsters stamped cover?

Just curious if anyone has actually handled both of these and noticed
a way to tell the real thing from the fake? Maybe diff't paper stock
or subtle stamp differences. Many of these reproductions flying around
lately so its a bit scary for recent purchasers like myself.

Not sure if this could be considered definitive, but on any original copies I've seen, the sleeve/bag is slightly unusual in that the folds on the back are at the bottom and the side as opposed to the usual folds on both sides... it's something I'd personally look out for if sourcing a genuine copy....

Hi Wally. Can you elaborate as I'm a bit confused. All sleeves i've
seen have the folds on top/bottom or side/side. Is that way you mean
by 'both sides'?

see here, the folds of the bag are not on each side of the slit, they are on the bottom and side...

I know I've become some kind of a collector nut when I can keep
looking at that ijpeg mage of a blank sleeve with interest and awe ...

And on the subject of folds I am sure most will have realised that the
early 80s re-releases all came in paper die cut Walt Jabsco sleeves
without the folds on the rear. Any of the reproduction Walt sleeves
which have recently appeared on the market appear to be the same.

All that is fine and dandy, but it doesn't match with the story told by
Terry and Horace in Ska'd for Life of them hand stamping blinking cardboard
sleeves.
I want a fake and I want it on a cardboard sleeve.
I also want a Walt Jabsco sleeve with the hand stamp on it, has anyone seen
one of those?
This is all getting a little silly. I'm beginning to think that the hand
stamped sleeve I owned a few years ago was a hand stamped forgery.
And moving on to the next problem... Once you have a real hand stamped
sleeve, how do you tell for certain that the disc in it is one of the 1,500
originally pressed to go with that sleeve?
Part of the above is serious, part of it is not!

I guess this is a 'welcome to the world of valuable collectables' now
that 2-tone products have left the fiver world into the 'real'
collectors market. I wouldn't be surprised if Costello's Can't stand
is next for the treatment. Maybe already has considering how often
that is on ebay!

In terms of record collecting and professional dealing I don't think 2
Tone registers at all. A few niave bidders on a well known auction
site are no indication of the genuine rarity and value of items on the
label. Paper labels nudging towards £100 should say it all.

I imagine what would be tempting to bootleggers is that 2 tone stuff
is probably super easy to reproduce (1 color printing or in the case
of the first single, an easily made stamp) but also that 2 tone
collecting seems to be done by fans or you average punter trying to
relive their youth as opposed to real collectors who would have the
knowledge to easily spot out a fake. I imagine this is a dream
scenario for most bootleggers.
And yes, prices are crazy inflated right now. I think most of these
people buying aren't collectors but people still high - and a bit
drunk - off the latest Specials or Madness shows looking to keep the
feeling alive. Understandably really but a shame they are being
conned.
