I bought mine online. 15 pounds. Hard to say if it's a good deal.
Depends on if it sells out. Looks pretty cool but definitely not an
essential purchase. I'm guessing most copies will never leave their
cellophane covering.

I might try my local store to see if they have one later. If they do I might buy it. If not I will wait and see if the price falls. It's a bit of a scam if on RSD plus one numerous copies of these discs are on aBay. I gather the book price for this EP is £10. That in itself is taking the piss. The fact that people want £30 for it already is just an insult. It's of no more than curiosity value for me. It's certainly not an essential part of my collection. Nor is The Beat's single.

I’m with Paul with this one. If the idea of these releases is to
entice and inspire people to the whole concept of physical releases at
independent record shops then they have failed spectacularly. From
what I have read a very large percentage of the tracks released were
previously available elsewhere and the shops themselves were charging
nothing short of an arm and a leg for the various formats.

As for the ‘Too Much Too Young’ release it looks like the band have
gladly following suit with the money for old rope concept and released
tracks they were already flogging via the Abbey Rd Live set up. The
sleeve itself is more than a bit crass and displays a distinct lack of
imagination. While the entire package is an obvious homage to the 1980
release; it’s about as far removed from it, both in content and
spirit, as is humanly possible.

I think I'll give it a miss.

I don't know. I kinda like it. Of course it's a cash-in (we are
dealing with a major record label here) but it's a new item for 2 Tone
Collectors to get excited about (and it's been awhile since that's
happened IMHO) and while I agree it could be better, it could be a
heck of a lot worse. Kinda funny they used the Chrysalis label and not
2 Tone though as both are defunct (correct me if I'm wrong).

Plus it's highly entertaining watching people's bidding habits when
there is so many of the same items up at the same time. If the
starting price is high (14 pounds or so), you get one person hitting
it and no other action. If it's low, all these interested parties get
involved and the bidding has on average gone past 20 pounds. Wouldn't
you just flip over to the next listing instead of sticking with the
one above the norm, especially if there's a Buy it Now available
cheaper then the going bid? Crazyness. Or should I say, Madness...

I thought they'd revived Chrysalis.

I am also under the impression that Jerry has blocked all use of all things 2Tone. Can't recall who told me for sure, so I won't name names in public! re cash in side, these items are meant to retail at around £5.99. It's yer eBay blaggers who are cashing in. Mind you EMI need every penny they can get as they are fucked as a going concern. Literally it is only the name and a bunch of massive names in the back catalogue that keeps them going.

Speaking of which: More Or Less Best Of The Specials? LP and CD? Sounds like a right old con to me. Out next Monday.

Someone on the list has kindly offered to try to get me The Specials single. Hopefully he will be able to come up trumps...

I had a little look and decided I would go to my local shop before trying eBay. Yes I always look to the next item and for a reasonable Buy It Now. I used to sell loads of deleted overstock CDs on eBay. My pricing policy was simple: find an auction for the item, look at how many underbidders there are and then list the CD at a Buy It Now within 15% either way on the current bid price. As I had multiple copies of the same item I didn't need the hassle of the auction.

I've learned from buying loads of rare Viz comic stuff on eBay to stick to my guns on price. I think my policy of bidding late and mainly only bidding once has only let me down a couple of times. Once it was because the seller changed the listing to offer a Buy it Now at the same as the start price as he'd had no bids at the time. He sold the item for a bit over a third of what I was prepared to pay. the other time was more recently when the founder of Viz had some charity auctions on there. I lost out on 2 out of 3 lots because I was outbid. What I didn't know was a couple of days later an old friend phoned me out of the blue to own up where he was and to offer to repay me a grand he owed me when he disappeared nearly 6 years ago. Even that luck doesn't mean I want to pay £28 for a Specials 7", which won't display any 2Tone imagery.

I'm disappointed there's not been a Madness release on any of the record store days so far.

The thing itself seems a really good idea. The guy at my local shop told me there had been a queue of 60 people at 9am on Saturday at his shop. In Chatham you only normally see queues like that at the social or Argos (and that was deserted when I went in this afternoon). It sort of reminds me of the thrill of going to the record shop on Saturday as a kid or on the way home from school on new release Monday once I worked out that was when records came out. I wonder if the kids will ever have the chance to get that back? There's not the same thrill in pre-ordering an item on Amazon and then getting emails every other week about the price change. That said, I am excited about the new Dexys album.
