Paul

Are these CDs or downloads or both?

Not heard of that FB3 track. Wonder if it is Murder She Said?

Cheers

Yes Download only I'm afraid. I think that Fun Boy Three track is just
a mistake because that session was played a couple of times before on
6music and only 3 tracks were played each time.

Paul

I don't know how accurate the information is because I've just checked 2 CDs
I have one English and on Windsong and the other American and on Griffin
Music. Both are billed as BBC Radio 1 live in concert The Selecter and The
Specials. They have EXACTLY the same track list as these downloads, except
the download claims to add Guns Of Navarone after Too Much Too Young and
before Nite Klub. Both state they were recorded at The Paris Theatre, London
on 5 December 1979.

So there's a mistake somewhere, either in the recording date and there must
be a reason Guns Of Navarone was left off the CD, but is included in the
download.

Worth getting if they've upped the quality for these downloads, but I still
prefer to have something in my hand. If they are on iTunes hopefully they'll
do one of those virtual sleeves to go with it.

I suppose you've got one or both of these CDs. I just dragged mine out
because they were close to hand.

Cheers

Never know with these things if they'll turn out to be the originals or

being Holland's equivalent of EMI Gold I guess it is the original tracks.

I've got the same tracklisting on Disky from 1996 called Best Of The
Specials with totally different artwork, but had never seen this Ultra
Specials before.

Cheers.

Cheers Wally, I just don't recall seeing it before. I certainly won't be rushing to pay 20 Euros for a mid-price or budget-priced release!

Ultra Specials is just a Reissue of The Best of The Specials Released
in 2005 the only good thing about it is it comes in a slip case and it
cost my under 10.00 at the time. all the tracks are the Original
versions.

Did anyone see this on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390103240725

I did and I won it. I am so glad it only cost £6 including postage.

The seller's powers of description are seriously flawed!

Seller's description:

CD in great condition , case ok ,box still in sellophane but has been opened
at bottom to remove cd

My description

CD in great condition - I didn't buy it to play anyway

case broken - I can live with this

box incredibly tatty. Has been flattened, dented, torn open at the bottom to
get the CD out, ah but the CD was stored at the top so I've had to tear
right up the left hand spine to just below where the picture shows the
artwork, then I've torn the bits of card inside the box supporting the CD so
the CD will drop down. Oh and the top of the box has been flattened. I think
I chucked the box in the bottom of a cupboard. If you look really closely at
the photo I've supplied it misses the top of the box off. This is so you
can't see the damage before bidding! Mind you it is still in cellophane,
despite all that damage!

Like I say I'm glad I only paid £6 for it. I can't be bothered getting into
a refund battle on eBay as it'll cost me money to post it back and the
seller will claim all that damage was done in the post. I know having spent
my entire adult life collecting records and about 15 years dealing in
records how to tell the difference between damage done before an item was
packaged and that done by the postal services! Like most buyers (I guess)
the first thing I look at when I get my packages is do they look like the
postman has played football with them?

You know what I reckon I can repair this item to some extent and I'm not
totally dissatisfied with it, but if I'd seen it in a second hand shop
there's no way I'd have offered the dealer what I put as my maximum possible
bid on Auction Sniper. I'd have said look at the state of it £5 or £6 quid
mate, take it or leave it.

It's a good thing us lot on here weren't in a bidding war for this!

Anyone got any similar stories?

Oh and if I saw the Colour Field's Virgins And Philistines 'longbox'
packaging up for sale, I'd be all over it like a rash, so let's hope there's
never a bidding war on that! The same goes for the alleged UK original.

Sorry I'm rambling now.

Cheers

Paul Rodgers

I've got the UK Chrysalis 25 year anniversary CD. That's lovely and I've
tried to keep the packaging as nice as possible.

you got it at a good price Paul so I wouldn't complain about it too
much. my worst Nightmare was buying a german pressing of Jama that was
badly warped and could only be played from track 3 I was so pissed off
I didn't bother asking for a refund after I was offerd one from the
seller. regarding long boxes I dont collect them I saw one for More
Specials & Dance Craze but I didn't bother bidding. I saw your Item
before but the fact that I already own the u.s. cd I can't see the
point in buying it again for a Chrysalis book that's not even about
the specials. but if the Book was just about the specials that would
be a Different story.

That 25th Anniversary thing from Chrysalis was something I got when it was
actually released. I don't remember how much it cost at the time, but don't
recall it being a lot more than a normal CD. I remember being disappointed
by the booklet as I thought Chrysalis's involvement with 2Tone would have
been worth more that a couple of pages.

This long box one is the first long box I've got for my collection. You're
right, the price is about right, but if it turned into a bidding war between
3 or 4 collectors who really wanted it and believed the original
description, the winner could have paid a far higher price and would have
been really disappointed.

Sounds like that copy of Jama should have been removed from sale. Even if
the seller only spots it as they are about to post it, they still have the
option of telling you they've realised it's knackered.

I don't care what condition something comes in as long as I knew it was that
condition when I decided to buy it.

Cheers
