I would like to share some of the key thoughts during the last talk we
had at Taylor's University. Maybe any of you can add more points so we
all can share knowledge and experience. The topic was Get the Job,
Keep it!
1. The Bozo explosion
Definition - The large number of inept/unsuitable employees that a
company ends up with when it hires an incompetent executive, who in
turn hires incompetent managers, who then hire incompetent workers.
This is to watchout to ensure for jobseekers look for good mentors
For interview, my funny advice was for them to etiher be the first or
the last as we as interviewers hardly remember people in between
unless they are extraordinary.
2. Payday/Salary/Money
Amount that you earn versus amount that you need
Always be patient and review salary report
Years ago people will get paid purely on experience and now based on
commitment
Have to find money to ensure motivation and not starting to look for
side jobs.
3. Job Hopping
a. Reason
i. Better pay
ii. Better hours
iii. Better people
iv. Better environment and location
b. Negative – not serious, not loyal, not well trained
c. Positive – More exposure, aggressive, marketable
4. Workload
Do something that you love
Passionate about what you do
• Little fulfilment
• Long hours and tight deadlines
• Conflicting demands on your time and loyalty
• Little balance between personal life and work commitments
• Strained relationships with the important people in your life
• Lack of any say at work
• Internal politics and a rigid company structure
• Bullying within the workplace
• Few promotional opportunities
5. Flexibility
Work and life balance
Time and work location doesn’t define productivity
Culture of 4 working days

2. Will you love the job? - Motivation
3. Can we tolerate working with you? – Fit
