POR and pre-launch checks. We want your views on updates to rules and guidance, following a number of reviews. These include: activities, nights away, first aid, visits abroad, leadership of sections and protected marks. This is your chance to let us know if the proposed changes will cause any issues, so please take a look at the proposals and complete the survey before 27 November 2018. Updates will be launched in January 2019. |
Personal GDPR training. Changes have been made to the GDPR eLearning module to reflect members’ feedback, including the addition of a certificate at the end of the module. Please remember that the deadline for all current adult members to complete the GDPR training module is Monday 31 December 2018, and that all new joining adult members (who do not have a full role by Tuesday 25 September 2018) must complete the GDPR training module within five months from the date of appointment. |

Our plan: Exploring early years provision. Work on our new strategy Skills for Life is now well underway. This includes work on digital (such as developing our website), off-the-shelf programmes, programme planning tools and our brand.
In the Skills for Life plan, we said we would start exploring early years provision only when we'd secured external funding. We are currently seeking this funding. In preparation, we want to hear from Groups interested in trying out different ways of delivering a new programme for young people under the age of 6. We particularly welcome interest from Groups in more deprived parts of the UK. Please use this form to express your interest.
It's important to note that we are only exploring options at this stage. Groups do not yet have permission to start early years provision outside of these pilots. Unofficial provision is against our rules, could affect the pilots and isn't insured. We'll keep you updated on our progress and whether there will be a wider roll-out in the future. |

Good Service Awards Nominations and approvals. The awards process has been simplified, making it easier for anyone to nominate an adult member for a Good Service Award. The majority of Good Service Awards are now approved locally by your Commissioners, with the decision passing to HQ for processing. Local Awards Advisory Groups can be created locally to support the decision making. All nominations need to be passed to your local commissioner or local Awards Advisory Group for consideration; if you're unaware who they are, please contact the Info Centre. Full information can be found here. |
'Tis the season for posting. Whether you're planning to post winter event leaflets or Christmas cards as a fundraiser, take a moment to consider the risks you may not have thought of. We've put together a list of things to think about and help you stay safe. |
Get inspired to fundraise. When two Scout families in Dorset had a big fundraising target to achieve, they got creative with their baking and developed a way to bring in the money they needed. Find out more. |
New Chief Commissioner of Wales. We're delighted to announce that Rhian Moore will shortly be joining Team UK as the newly appointed Chief Commissioner of Wales. Tim Kidd will act as the Chief Commissioner of Wales until Rhian officially takes up the role on 1 December 2018. Read more here. |

Your role working with Cub Scouts |
Digital programme planning. Our Skills for Life strategy sets out to create a digital programme planning tool, which will make it easier for you to find great activities and plan a strong Scout Programme. Progress is currently underway to create the tool, and we'd love for it to be made up of some of the brilliant activities you run with your Cub Scouts. If you'd like to contribute, please suggest your ideas within this form.
We'll use the information to inspire content on the new tool, but may not be able to use your idea fully or include everyone’s ideas. You can only suggest one activity at a time, but please feel free to submit as many times as you want. If possible, remember to include your membership number so we can contact you if we need to find out more about your activity. |

A Million Hands: New resources. A new set of simple, step-by-step resource packs have been created to help you in planning and delivering A Million Hands in the run-up to the Big Moment, so that young people across the UK can take action on the issues they're most passionate about. Find out more. |
CREST awards. Did you know that badges such as the Astronomer Activity Badge and Naturalist Activity Badge can contribute towards a CREST Superstar Award? CREST is a national recognised accreditation scheme for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). You can find more about the scheme here. |
Parliament Week. This event, running from 12 to 18 November, aims to engage young people across the UK with Parliament. If you registered previously with UK Parliament Week, you can include the resource packs in your Programme; if you haven’t, you can still get involved. You can also use the week to support your community with an A Million Hands resource: remember to tell your local MP what you're doing to help. You can also mark the event with your pack by working towards your ‘Team Leader Challenge Award', giving your Cubs a voice in the Pack. |
Winter camping safety. Just because it’s the winter, doesn’t mean we can’t camp outside: however, it’s important to plan ahead and keep safe. Keep your body warm both day and night by wearing the right layers, choosing the right sleeping bag and making sure you sleep with layers underneath you. And remember: never keep a heater in your tent! If you want extra heat in your tent, try using an old-fashioned hot water bottle. |

Guide for 'Update Charity Details' for registered charities. The Charity Commission for England & Wales recently changed the way trustees keep their registered charity details up-to-date. The Scouts have been working with the regulator to produce a guide to help trustees use the new system. We strongly encourage that Executive Committees take a look at this new guide and check their current entry, updating details where needed. For members in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, there are no changes. |
Keeping personal data refreshed. It's important to keep the data we use to communicate up-to-date. To ensure you're using the latest membership data, encourage your members to update their details in Compass and use this as a single point of reference for the latest information. |
