Hi everyone

Further to my earlier messages this week Tim Kidd has posted more information about the initial response to the outcome of the legal case.

The following link will take you to Tim's article.

http://scouts.org.uk/news/2018/03/supporting-you-to-make-scouting-more-inclusive/?dm_i=31ME,OJP7,3D6ZSI,2IIMA,1

UK Chief Commissioner Tim Kidd explains why we are making the time and space to consider how we best support our volunteers with inclusion, so we continue to welcome young people of all backgrounds and abilities.

If there any leaders or other adult volunteers who have experience of addressing the issues of members with autism in our Sections or more generally with inclusion the Scout Association wants to hear from you. Tim's article contains the necessary links to enable you to contribute to the process that has been started.

My view is that it is refreshing that TSA has so quickly acknowledged that in this particular case things could have been done better and is showing a determination to learn from the experience so that we can all better recognise and address the varied needs of the young people that are and aspire to be members of our great Movement.

Please share this message and the link with your leadership teams and more widely within your Groups.

Hi everyone

The breaking news this morning about the legal case and compensation award against the Scout Association will cause concern for all volunteers in Scouting. Although there are articles appearing in the press TSA has not yet posted anything to the website. I would expect they are considering the most appropriate response and guidance that should be issued ....As I write I see that Tim Kidd has sent a message which I will look at asap.

It is however timely that a date has been set for a workshop on promoting positive behaviour which will address some of the issues around how we deal with young people who present forms of behaviour that are challenging.

The invitation for the 10th June workshop has been sent via Eventbrite to GSLs. It is my hope that you will be aware of the issues that your leaders confront and encourage them attend if there is a particular need. You are also encouraged to attend so that you are aware of the issues and strategies that may be required.

Here is the Eventbrite link in case you have not found the invitation yet.

In the meanwhile you will be able to book places for up to 10 leader. The maximum for this event is 40. Other dates are available but this is the one that I selected to ensure Horsham secured a date. We might reasonably expect the demand to increase after recent events and depending on the response from yourselves I will seek another date from the course provider.

Please act quickly to ensure your leaders are able to attend this workshop.
