It's been years since the last posting to this group. I would like to get feedback: Is it worthwhile keeping 1st Power Macs running or has it run its course?

Hi Dan,

I was surprised to see a message from this group! The reason I still
want to be connected with people is for potential help with a personal
project. There is some old animation software that I was making a
movie on, and it will only run correct in System 7.1.2 or earlier.

UntiI it caught fire in 2008 I was using a 6100/60AV for this with
272Mb of Ram. I have most of what I need to rebuild that. Then I have
a HD I need to rescue, too, without a system folder and have had
various trouble doing that.(This wasn't a 'pseudo' project either, I
was making a pretty good cartoon on software from 1991, worked on it
for years because it was kind of stuck in the format and originally I
just had it and knew of nothing better to use at least that I could
afford)

Other than that, have they run their course IDK. I don't know if
anyone is tied to software for some thing they want to finish or
preserve at least. All I've got is somewhat low quality video copy of
the animation.

I'm also waiting to find some spare time to rebuild a couple of Power Macs for my collection. When I come to that, the group might be of help if I get stuck :)

It's almost working.

The server it's ready. A bridge between Sierra and System 7, Mac 8, 9  with Label support and Dropbox backup, without using a Windows protocol, no third-apps (no Connectix DoubleTalk), just a Linux server and netatalk.

The next step is to run on a raspiberry pi and provide USB storage support via server.

Hi Dan, depends I guess. Do you have a project or something?

A bought a ethernet card, and just wanna write stuff and have a cloud backup (using a raspberrypi network on wifi), and use a USB hub on raspberrypi and share the portable storage to the network. I will "hide" the raspberrypi inside the machine, if possible.

So, my plan is a 22-year-old Mac with wifi and USB (data storage).

I think it's worth it, hehe.

Gabriel.
