Escape to fictional realities.
The term escape from reason implies a certain brokenness in understanding the reality or not being able to understand logical systems of realities. Historically, the term has implied belief in the irrational, in the madness, in the superstitious or supernatural and even in the magical; but the fictional realities of imaginative worlds accept these as part of it as normal.
Working with traditional materials and contemporary materials as metaphors, one tries to reflect the current socio-cultural systems. With the current media and the society of the new spectacles and memes, one studies the media as part of the art historical cycles of themes and newer art forms.
The magical fantasy genre within the past fifteen years has seen an explosion with many movies and tv series now found available on OTT platforms making it accessible to anyone who is interested in it. The socius and the habitus that has been formed from the technological and media seemed like a challenge for the traditional and the popular system but the working class has taken over the social media and the traditional thrives within the escapes of fantasy for the younger generations and to anyone interested.
These works, some of which are traditional forms and some of which are of the magical fantasy genre invoke realities of imaginative kinds and in a way are an escape from rational logical reasons to the fictional realities. The photographic prints, sculptures and materials work as a large installation in a way that merges the cultural difference within the terms of the Indian ‘Tat tvam asi’ and western systems such as “As above so below” and “Do as thou wilt”
This exhibition is an invite to the viewers to recognise the current socio-cultural and media driven reality to an imaginative magical fantasy Habitat.
