Saturday, 6 June 2026 at 6 pm. Absen's work tells a story of travelling away from home to a distant land, experiencing othering and a sense of non–belonging. Where existence, choices and basic rights are questioned. And an unsafe political situation – which triggered a sense to flee the country, yet wherever you go you are not going to be fully accepted, there is no such place. From a violent, lawless landscape the character in the work is looking out to sea, setting sail to find a utopia that does not exist.
Anujith delves into human lives constantly affected and shaped by the various hierarchies that govern social life. Within dominant structures of power exist those whose lives and experiences are often excluded, overlooked, and denied visibility, resulting in their continued existence at the margins. The existential questions of visibility and invisibility, presence and absence, are explored through both personal and collective realities.
