Urban Fabric" is a curated show by Suresh Jayaram and Sagar Shastri that brings together many artists and organizations under one roof. Bangalore/Bengaluru has been known for its fabric industry, in this show we look at the history of weaving, tailoring, quilting, and the skills/labor of people who have contributed to this diverse material culture and living tradition. We wish to look beyond the fabric and weave a narrative that involves artists who have used textiles in different forms to speak about tradition, change, and conflict.

This show is part of Project 560, a grant from the India Foundation of the Arts.

It was awarded to 1Shanthiroad studio/gallery and is part of many initiatives that involve the city, its people, and their narratives.

We are grateful to Goethe Institut, Max Muller Bhavan, and Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath for their generous support.

The show opens on 12th March 2021 and is on view till 25th March 2021.
