to Nineteenth-Century Children's Literature
I'm a graduate student, about a year out from my PhD, specializing in
nineteenth-century children's literature, so I definitely welcome this
discussion!
Like an earlier poster, I have not yet had the opportunity to teach a
class in children's literature., so take this with a grain of salt, as
well. (I'm heartened by a few jobs on the MLA Job List this year for
children's lit specialists in English departments!) I'm working on a
few syllabi on the topic, and was considering organizing one by
different "types" of children -- the playful child, the working child,
the naughty child, the child of nonsense... Part of my idea stems
from reading Kincaid's book Child-Loving, which does something
similar.
I'm glad to have found an active group discussing these topics!
Everyone's advice and perspectives are helpful.
