Hello to fellow nineteenth-century children's literature enthusiasts!
I am almost finished my PhD (mere weeks left!) at the University of Melbourne on girlhood in the British periodical press between 1850 and 1915. And now that one project is seemingly approaching completion, I am thinking about a postdoc on nineteenth-century Canadian girlhood. I'm interested in examples of Canadian girls appearing in British or American texts. Bessie Marchant uses Canadian girls and Canadian settings in some of her adventure novels in the first decades of the twentieth century, but I'm having trouble finding proper nineteenth-century examples. Any suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers,
