Looks like Ancient India read only the 'Kama Sutra' :-)
READ ON.....

Sex and Indian Culture, things that rarely Indians are told

1-
In chapter 63 of Adiparva in Mahabharata, open sex between Rishi Parashar and Satyavati Matsyangandha has been described

2-
in the 104th chapter of Adiparva, it is mentioned that son of Utthat, Dirghtama started having sex with a woman in front of all the people.

3-
Maharaja Ranjit Singh used to have sex in a place where his elephant used to be tied for everyone to see him

4-
In the times of Bajirav, a game 'Ghatkancuki' used to play in Pune.
Also, some chosen elite men and women were made to have sex for others entertainment.
The men used to first pull the women’s dresses and then have sex with them in public.
The sexual game would continue until every man would have slept with every woman.

5-
In Karnataka, until independence, people used to organize group sex.
age was not a concern at all.
It is believed that in ancient times, Tamilians too used to have sex in front of everyone.
One can find in Vedas that people used to have open group sex in yagya bhoomi.

6-
Kautbik sex (incest) is mentioned in ancient texts. It is mentioned 'Harivansh' that the daughter of sage Vasishta, Shatrupa believed him to be her husband and therefore used to have sex with him.

7-
Harivansh -
In the same grantha it is mentioned that Daksha gave her daughter to his father, Brahmadev and Narada was born.
As mentioned in Haribhavishya, Indra dev had sex with his great grandson’s (Janmejay) wife Vapushtma

8-
In Mahabharat’s Adiparva, it is said that if an unmarried woman expresses her desire to have sex, it should be fulfilled. If her wish is not fulfilled, it means death of religion.

9-
Mahabharat -
Ulupi clearly says to Arjuna that to satisfy a woman, it not against religion to sleep with her for one night

10-
Urvashi told Arjuna that if the Paurva Vansh’a any son or grandson wants to have sex with any woman of her family including her, it is not insulting religion.

11-
It is also mentioned in religious scriptures that sage Agastya had kept his daughter with the King of Vidarbha and when she reached age of marriage, he married his own daughter.

12-
Incest Sex Common
In the tenth mandal of Rig Veda, the sexual conversation between Yam and Yami is mentioned.
Here, Yami expresses her desire to have sex with her own brother.
When Yam refuses to do so, she insists and says that a sister remaining unsatisfied despite her brother being around, so what is her brother’s use?
This clearly signifies the sexual relationship between brothers and sisters in ancient times

13-
ancient historian Cipeve Lerhuno wrote that people used to occasionally have sex with their mothers, sisters and daughters.

14-
Mahabharta mentiones in Adiparva that having sex with any women is not bad and is a normal behavior

15-
Duryodhan had made Karna the king of Angdesh. In this desh, woman and children were sold.

16-
Ancient India gambling was legal

17-
In ancient India betting was legal.

18-
In Ancient India drinking was legal.

Swami,

Raymond Lapiere’s book “Freedom at Midnight” refers to the Ranjit singh parading around with an erect phallus in front of his subjects to show them that theie king is still “able” - (I can anticipate you mail on how he managed to keep his stuff UP for a long time, but I do not privy to this knowledge.)

Survival and reproduction are one of the principles by which evolution works, naturally, every society would have its own view of sex and reproduction.

All your “ancient” apply to practically all over the world, not just to India. In fact, one would wonder at the number of wine vats and containers that one comes across in archaeological record in the sub continent!

And you all object to thinking of lingam as phallus worship.

Vaidi.

Swami...

These things happened (and still happens) in every part of the world.  To quote some scriptures (shall we say, in this context, just a record of history) only proves the point that it is an attempt to defame Indian culture - nothing more than that.

Just a detour from the subject:  There is a book called Kamba Rasam by CN Annadurai.  He chiefly quotes the erotic portions from Kamba Ramayanam (one of the rules of a Kaapiyam is that it should have all emotions) and say that this is all Kamba Ramayanam is about.

When Hanuman asks Rama about how Sita will look like, in his "viraga daabam" Rama says that her mammary glands (ada paachi thaampaa!) will be like a lotus flower with a single bee on it.

இத வெச்சு எப்படியா கண்டு புடிக்கரதுன்னு..much embarrassed Hanuman now asks Lakshman as to how Sita looks to which  Lakshman says I have never seen Sita, except her feet.  Ithula point ennanna, had Lakshman also said... yes, yes... Sita will look like the same way Rama had said...kathai kanthal aagi irukumilla.  This was only to prove the piety of Lakshman.

Coming to the point of culture, I quote here from Shashi Taroor's book The Great Indian Indian Novel (must read!!): India is not, as people keep calling it, an underdeveloped country, but rather, in the context of its history and cultural heritage, a highly developed one in an advanced state of decay.

Loving regards, Anand

psst... Will soon post the Kumbabishekam photos..

Hi
Read Javier Morro's "Pride of India" -to give an instance from this book-  the maharaja of kapurthala (if i am not wrong) instructed that any girl in his kingdom who had attained puberty shall immediately be sent to the palace and shall stay till the king gets satisfied- the entire book is on the atrocities committed by our kings!

You are right and wrong. Right where you say every religion has its pluses and minuses.  If you read the Fan Club  by Irving Wallace, he talks of the Pope having had a mistress.

You are wrong when you say this may defame our religion. I am saying our religion was much less hypocritical, much more open than all these Victorian moralities that came to India. In fact, if you read below, the religion and practices were much more open. And reading this below made me aware or proud that Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma recognized some biological realities such as the pull of flesh.

Vaidi
I too read Freedom at midnight. Remember the king who took gold from every virgin he screwed in his kingdom. He accumulated a sizeable quantity of gold. So as Prasad Venkat says, our kings, some of them at least, were only interested in whoring and screwing around and building huge palaces and buying the Rolls-Royces from England.
I just shared this information, thats all.
What was it you mentioned about some archaeological finds? Pl elaborate.

Hi
I must read that book by Javier Morro. But read my other email sent just now. In fact, people talk glowingly about our kings. We had our fair share of crooked kings who plundered poor people.
