Bio:

My name is Sarah Tucker, I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1987- and according to my passport - I am still a South African. I have however been living in the UK for the past few years now and love it here. I studied English Literature at The University of Cape Town, and whilst I currently work as a photographic retoucher, I have never forgotten my love of poetry, and continue to write daily.

Poem:

Winter Tree
Do you ever wonder if the tree knows-
When surrounded by mist,
Bare branches reaching for quiet light,
That this is just a season in his life,
A ring broadening his sturdy trunk,
A moment before the dawn?

Does he pray for warmth-
As snow clothes his naked form?
Does he yearn for colour,
And the company of woodland creatures,
As the wind dances past him?

Or does he value his solitude-
And these quiet muffled months,
Growing within him the means,
To burst forth with vibrant green?

I hope he does,
I hope he does not fear the cold.

I hope he knows-
That in this season of reflection,
His more sombre frame,
Is as beautiful as it ever was,
And the world will carry him again,
To the favour of the sun.
