Haoran (Henry) Tong, China

— Born in 2001, I'm currently a Chinese high school student, living in Beijing. I was awarded "Young Poet Laureate 2017" for bringing song-meter into modern poetry and translation. I also study poetry's pragmatic role in developing cultural awareeness and social recognition.

My Soul, A Vestige of Glow

In the vestige of glow of the winter lamp
Burgeons my unruly soul.
It guards the heartbeat of dim light
And smoothens dark wrinkles.

Appeasing the shadow that haunts my trace
I see a pavilion, shivering alone.
The wind lingers ‘round its gloomy grace;
Its distance outreaches my hope.

The quiescence breeds a lurking soul
Waking twilight in a transient sorrow;
Deep in depression my memories ripple
Driving dawn to blossom tomorrow.

Before the cold frost blurs my sight,
a mirage decays in drizzles.
But the phantom of my roaming soul
is buried in the light smoke.
