to 19 Poems for WINTER
This unpublished poem is for the anthology "Winter"

"Longing"

It is freezing, cold as hell

My hands are shaking,

And I am unwell.

The tears I shed then turn to ice,

And right then I feared, this is my demise.

Choking back a scream,

I claw at my throat.

And my chapped lips tingled,

For a kiss of hope.

You have left me freezing,

Eternally cold.

And yet, and yet there you stand.

So far away, on a stray land.

Out of reach, out of sight,

I wish you were also out of my mind.

But no, no! You haunt me so,

You taunt and you flaunt,

With the freedom I sought,

Yet, never came to know.

And so, here I am.

Hollow, never feeling.

For the numbness has swallowed me.

And I am freezing and shaking,

And utterly breaking,

Apart but not free.

For this harsh winter,

You've trapped me in,

From deep within,

Is eternal.

And oh, how I long for the sun.
