Bio:
Duncan Standard (Jacob Duncan)
Currently hailing once again from my birthplace of Owensboro, Kentucky, in the United States; I am Jacob Duncan, although I write under the name of Duncan Standard. I was born in April of 1987, in the land of hills, marijuana, and methamphetamine; a place I have escaped from many times only to be caught by life's noose and hung back out here to die. I have traveled for both work and for pleasure, from one coast to the other and every state in between. Which, after a back injury that I ignored for far too many years, I ended up with no choice but to have multiple spinal surgeries, which led to a small stint of paralysis, learning to walk again, and a permanent lack of feeling and partial loss of movement in my lower body. I now get to enjoy the good things of life. I am the proud father of a beautiful daughter, born in July 2009, the holder of many college credits, in a variety of fields of study, with a passion for art in the form of literature, spoken word poetry, metal sculpting,  motorcycle and automobile customization.

Poem:

Winter Fears

The colors change;
Green,
Red,
Orange,
Yellow,
Dead.
Across the fields,
Through the trees,
Everything has left this world;
Empty,
Cold,
Done.
Deserted for the season.
This so called season of sharing;
Caring,
Giving,
Receiving.
The season the animals sleep,
Or migrate to the warmer areas,
Trying to avoid that inevitable cold.
