Hello everyone!

Sorry for the late email, but I want to know if anyone has any ideas. I have been getting roaches a lot this year, no matter how clean I am. I just had another one after just 1 month before the last!

Does anyone have any recommendations (pet safe please!) on how to mitigate this? Is anyone else having similar issues? Can we even do something about it?

Have a great evening and thank you for your help,

Irina Zia (She/They)

We hadn't had one all year - but we started getting some a week/week and a half ago (we're on 4th floor) too. Gross! We are very clean too.

We had the pest control come last week when they were already coming, and they sprayed for roaches. They're coming again on June 18th - try to have them come to your unit. That increased the number we were seeing for a bit (at least a dozen in a few days), which was gross. I think now (fingers crossed) the number seems to be decreasing? Have still seen 0-2 a day in a various sizes. But definitely try to have them come to yours if they haven't!!

I'm not sure about pet safe solutions, because we have just been using raid when we see one to make sure they die. Park East office gave us sticky traps (we put some out) but I don't think those do much... Allegedly peppermint smells and other essential oils deter them, we have a peppermint spray but I don't necessarily trust the efficacy of that.

The pest control guy's tips (besides the stuff he sprayed) were:
  • keep everything dry - showers, sinks (wipe out sink overnight)
  • go EXTRA overboard on cleaning - no crumbs, scraps of anything around trash can, on stove, pull out the oven a little and clean the side of over
  • Keep your eye out for smaller ones as those are more likely for a infestation versus the giant ones which likely just came in from outside somehow
But it sounds like maybe it's a building problem if multiple of us are having that problem...

Hi!

I also hadn’t seen any roaches for about 6-7 months and then one day recently when it started getting warm, FOUR IN ONE NIGHT came to haunt me. My place is clean and tidy and i noticed them coming from under the radiator.

I typically line the perimeter of my apartment with boric acid powder in the summer to keep the ants and roaches away and that has worked well for me and my cat. He does not get close to the powder and is not interested in it but ofc every pet is different.
