We played two 2-player games at StabCon. The first ended when Geoff
realised that his second company, ML, having floated at £140 couldn't
afford to build track and buy a train! The second was more
interesting.

SR1: Dave: MR@30+HD@40; Geoff: S&T@40+W&P@30.
Geoff: ML@110; Dave: SAM@100.
SR2: Dave: LN@140; Geoff: NB@160.
SR3: Dave: YNM@140; Geoff: ND@160.
OR3.1: ND buys the third 3-train; YNM buys train from SAM. SAM
+LN=GCR@90.
OR3.2 NB+ML=GNR@100.
SR4: Geoff: MR@120 in Hull.
Getting the extra 3-train allowed Geoff to run his three minors,
whilst I was forced to merge.
Then with the extra income, Geoff launched the last major company. I
was forced to buy his shares.

We ran out of '4' tiles (3) with only one '58' (of 6) on the map.

Thanks for that, Dave.

Just a couple of questions:
1. What were (roughly) the final scores?
2. Did you actually need a fourth #4 tile?
3. Where did you put the three #4's?

We didn't actually finish; I conceded to Geoff as the result was
obvious.

I didn't photograph the final map, but I believe they were Durham,
Stockton, Doncaster and then I wanted to lay Selby towards Hull.
You could always ask Geoff if he remembers <joke>.

Presumably this also happens in 3- and 4-player games, where only one
or two players can buy a second 3-train. Is this a big disadvantage
in those cases as well, or is it specific to the 2-player game?

Dave.

I suspect that making Stockton a plain hex means we need another #4.

You could have spent an extra £20 to upgrade Doncaster (to free up a #4)?

It probably depends how quickly you get to the 5T and kill the 3Ts.

Most of my playtests have been 4-player, where there are two players with fewer 3Ts and every incentive to force to the 5....

Indeed, as you and I discovered in a 3-player game at Manorcon, where you and I bought three minor companies, leaving Marcus to form the first public company, buy the first 4 train, then the first 5 train and beat both of us by £400.  An interesting contrast to Dave T's game, although Marcus didn't start a third minor.

Dave.
