Marriage then and now

My love was free
It blossomed this Spring
The growth of a stunted tree
Came to life suddenly
I felt the longing within
To be near you again
The times we laughed
The children we shared
The family outings and
Semblance of stability
Held in a posture of warm at the fireplace

But memories of betrayal
Like a thunderous night
Stopped me picking up the phone
To call you and tell you
How I miss you
