Letters

From all the fervor of our text fight
There has remained a few dull words
By which no reader can be convinced
That you and I have ever had a fight.
So why do my sores never heal?
Why am I still in pain?
How many meanings could the word " go"
In those two letters contain?

Letters, oh letters!
Truly are feelings just your slaves
As you turned all the "fun" into "gun"
To kill the mocking bird of my heart;
You made him commit the sin.

It's just a little letter
That can change "dear" into "dead"
But from "r" to "d" is a road
You let me take that road, dear
You let me leave in the cold..

Afrooz Jafarinoor, Iran

— I'm a teacher and writer, living in Tehran. I was born in 1972 in Hamedan, Iran, from lower middle class parents who loved books and raised me with lots of fairy tales. Learning Persian, Turkish, and Kurdish as a child has given me a passion for foreign languages. I hold a master's degree in English literature, and have also learned a lot of German. I write poetry in Persian and English and also translate into them. Another field I love is theater and cinema. I also hold a master's degree in dramatic literature and I write reviews. To publish my poetical compositions and translations, as well as my critical essays, I have a launched a website at

www.poetsrepublic.com.
