Ms. Ayala,

Please consider this to be a formal protest against the proposed location of the new Century Link x-box at 1551 Garfield. My reasons for protesting are that there are less visually obtrusive locations on the existing block  south of all residences on the 1500 block of Garfield. Please relocate to an area that is not directly in front of a residential home.

Councilman Brooks,

Please see what can be done about this as you have committed to us you will do what’s possible to salvage the livability of those of us most affected by the Sprouts development and subsequent alley relocation. (I do not need another eyesore in front of my house).

Thanks all.

Please call me with any questions.

Hi Albus,

Thank you for getting back on this. Public Works and Century link are proposing to place a utility cabinet that measures 53”H x 43”W x 38”deep at the juncture of the proposed new alley and Garfield Street. (see attached drawing from Public works). I protested this placement with Public Works on largely aesthetic grounds. The protest was denied because it was deemed to have no technical merit.

Here’s my complaint and suggestion for resolution in full.

1.       The metal cabinet is an eyesore and the proposed relocation places it directly across from my front porch. These things  tend to rust over time and are not maintained except as required for functionality.

2.       While I have grudgingly accepted that the view from my front porch will become an alley. I still have an interest in keeping that view as clean and unobstructed as possible.

3.       These cabinets are large enough to provide a hiding or nesting place for homeless, given the new alleyway, the proclivity for more homeless activity in the u-shaped portion of the alley increases.

4.       Sadly these utility boxes are often targeted for graffiti.

5.       The cabinet if it must be relocated can be placed south of the residential areas of Garfield street as there is plenty of available area fronting the east side of the Grocery store.

Thanks again for your willingness to look into this on my behalf.
