Green Pencils

The grenade in their pockets
Has once been a tight fist
It could be given a green pencil
Before they became terrorists.

Not long ago they were
Kids, and pure like water
Before they were led to own
Heads with so much clutter.

The world we dream of, without grenades
Will come true if we inject
Love and respect into our kids
Terror and horror, they will reject.

The world has had enough of hatred
We deserve to have peace and pleasure
It will no longer be a dream if
We give our children the treasure.

The world is old enough to prove
Love is against the terror
We need to be human
We will erase the error.

Golrokh Maleki, Iran
I was born in 1983 in Tehran, Iran. My parents were nurses when the war broke out in Iran, and I know what it means to be caught in horror. I have been teaching English for  many years in Tehran, and I know many good hearts in my classes for whom I like to make the world a better place.

An inspiring poem written by Afrooz Jafari Noor, "Green Pencils" alludes to what individuals might have once held in their "tight fist" "before they became terrorists." With every 2nd & 4th line of each stanza set to rhyme, Afrooz gives us a glimpse of terror only to return once again to the 'Green Pencil' where, with love and "the need to be human," the error of terror can be erased. Thank You, Afrooz!

_____________

Nice comment, Richard, but the poem is by Golrokh Maleki.
I suspect that the Author had connection troubles, so Afrooz submitted the poem on behalf of Golrokh.
