Triumph Against The Fog

I was thirteen when a vestige of my
hometown succumbed to bombs,
flames, and screams. That night, I
realized that terrorism does not have
to come to you in the form of a gun
or a malicious face. It can also get
inside your head like a silent ghost.
That night, I slept. But my fear
traversed the walls of my room,
looking for any signs of danger.
It landed on shadows trailing behind
me. It rose up to eat at my feet.
That night, I felt the most innate
form of fear. Instinct instructed
me to secure my family in a
bandbox. My brain interjected with
a wiser alternative. It refined my
perspective and asked me to be
more pragmatic. It helped me
vanquish this grotesque brawl with
terrorism and what it represents.
My victory does not solve anything.
Terrorist groups still capture Iraqi
mosques and vacuous men still
kill ten-year-old girls. But if you
and I stand together like cemented
bricks in the summer heat, no bullet
or threat can infiltrate us. With, Love
and Unity as ammunitions, we can
dispel this hate away from us.

A fear-riddled poem encompassing the long-lasting tortuous mental effects that a terrorist's attack can precipitate. Wonderful title and poem by Avantika Singhal reminisced from a terrible childhood memory. But Avantika offers a solution of resolve that we all could learn from. Thank You, Avantika!
