Health tip
Since muscle imbalance happens, it has to be stretched and strengthened. Be aware of one's physical limits and take adequate protection to prevent injury. Listen to your body. It sends warning signals. Refrain from what's hurting you. Check your training technique and modify it. Reduce frequency of dancing. A physiotherapist can advice you on what best to do to strengthen your muscles and avoid further injury.
(Dr. Ernest Vijay (Sports Physiotherapist and Fitness specialist), at Natya Darshan V seminar, Dec 2005)
Quote
"Bhakti and rakti are equal in status to reach salvation. A certain class of people is perhaps uncomfortable with it. There is hypocrisy in our society. If the song is in Sanskrit and the viewers cannot understand the words, they won't mind. Generally, viewers are amazed that sexual motifs can be so beautiful and artistic. While the motif of eroticism has been commented upon, it has not been adversely commented upon."
(Swapnasundari in 'Dedicated to dance,' the Hindu, June 5, 2005)

- International Dance Day Message: April 29, 2007 by Sasha Waltz
One dances on birthdays, at weddings, on the streets, in living rooms, on the stage, behind the scenes. To communicate joy, sorrow, as ritual and borderline experience.
Dance is a universal language: emissary for a peaceful world, for equality, tolerance and compassion. Dance teaches us sensibility, consciousness and to pay attention to the moment.
- Towards an Indian daCi chapter by Mamata Niyogi-Nakra
I have often been asked why there is no India chapter of Dance and the Child International (daCi), an organization that has representatives from countries all over the world. I cannot honestly claim to have an answer. It has indeed been puzzling to me along with many others, to find that this august body has not generated any interest that it ought to have.
- What are we doing? by Sangeetha Shyam
I did work at implementing a Bharatanatyam study for students of grades 1- 6, in an International school affiliated to the ICSE Board and they did not even opt to show me any kind of prescribed syllabus. Were they aware of it or not, I am not sure! But apart from the initial discussion with the principal of the school, who promised all the help and an honorarium and whom I never got to meet when I later joined as he had already quit at that point, there was absolutely no briefing whatsoever.
- Vyakthi Viveka: (Bharatheeya Kavyasastra: Part XII) by V S Bhaskara Panicker Mahima Bhatta was a critic of very high calibre in poetics. He has set up a model of strong and aggressive style of criticism which evokes high enlightenment in the field of poetical studies. He lived in Kashmir. He was a scholar of very high standard in Vyakarana, Niruktha, Nyasa, Mimamsa, Kavya, etc. His style being abstruse, scholars look upon him with caution. He had no hesitation in pointing out errors even in Kalidasa.
(This is the twelfth part of Mr. Panicker's research paper)
- Attuned to my culture by Rucha Desai
Dance ignites the flame that illuminates my soul. When I move, I feel a surge of energy reverberate through my veins. However emotionally or physically exhausted I feel, dance invigorates my senses, bringing my heart and mind together. When I am dancing, I am not a girl, a student, or an Indian - I am empowered to become simply me.
(Rucha won Honorary Mention in the Dance Essay Competition conducted by Cultural Centre of India)
- Dance: my true calling by Anisha Kumar
Mahatma Gandhi once stated, "All true art must help the soul to realize its inner self." Being a dancer has allowed me enter a world of precision in detail, self-discipline, and spirituality. Yet, most importantly, it has helped me find a part of myself that I never knew I had. It never really seemed to me that tennis, violin, or any of the other activities I did, represented all that I wanted to do.
(Anisha won Honorary Mention in the Dance Essay Competition conducted by Cultural Centre of India)

- And the mentor passed away... by Lada Singh
Exactly 48 hours before Subbudu decided to leave the mortal world, I was with him to celebrate his 90th birthday. A day, marked by silence and occasional murmuring by the man who was never at a loss of words. A day, when for the first time, in nearly three years of my intense interaction with him, I found us caught in the stillness of time. As I began to leave, his left hand arose, bitten by an inexplicable urge. With no words exchanged, I bowed my head and he rested his hand on my head.
Subbudu died on 29th March 2007, at the age of 90 leaving behind a huge corpus of writing on Indian performing arts that will forever remain un-matched...
