to House

Hey guys,

I am thinking of bringing in a band for state patty's day at our house.

What I need from ya: a party like the old days...no binge fest, but just a ton of ppl looking to chill. Since we have so many ppl looking to have parties at our house on SPD, we should combine to form a giant one as a last hoo-rah.

Whaddya think? Also..like last time, everyone invite 2x the chicks as guys on Fbook (dont invite entire ORGs, but just friends...because we dont have a ton of room)

kegs, epic jungle juice, and safety are priorities

Cheers,
JT

Cool.

ill take that as 2/14...if 8 ppl agree we'll proceed. Otherwise, we won't organize anything, which is fine too.

Interesting change of pace from last year's  "alt" celebration ("let's wear pink, be sober, hold hands and sing kumbaya"). Seriously though, the house wil get overrun by out of town yahoos, it will absolutely be a disaster, and I live in the blast zone. Having a band is a cool idea, but state patties is the wrong weekend to try it.

Ok...is anyone trying to have an organization over on State Patty's? If not, then it doesn't matter.

I was trying to avoid the bitching btwn people that was likely to result if 1 organization was to have a party instead of others.

I dont care either way

Ya I was kidding... Every "open house" party we throw is a disaster, and the same few people will end up cleaning it up. How about we save the "last hoorah" event for over the summer, once I'm outta here, or even better once I have my security deposit?

If somebody wants to invite their friends or org over, go for it. At least people you know have a slight reason to respect our house. An open door party means open season for stealing and breaking shit, not to mention vomiting in the sink, smoking in the hallways, clogging the toilets, ya know the drill. And with how much the cops hate State Pattys, it's a sure fire way to get some kind of citation.

Not open door. Just specifically invited friends. Open door is a horrible idea.

FYI the last 2 parties that we ran like this we made 60 and 140 USD from, nothing was destroyed, and everyone had a good time.

Oh yeah, because when word gets out 120 fairmount is having a triple kegger, "only our friends" will show up... And if the frats aren't allowed to host that day, there's gna be a lot of drunk underage idiots looking for beer.

It's a free country though, by all means. So if you guys want to throw down, just let us all know who you are. If you agree to buy the booze, clean the entire house afterward, and pay any citations we get, no problems here.

Hey Jon,

I love you like a brother.

That being said, I think having any sort of large party (invites or
open house) is a terrible idea. As much fun as it sounds, the people
who show up are going to be trashed regardless of whose friends they
are, and een the ridiculously conservative estimate of 20 trashed
people = giant mess.

If I knew you would be totally responsible for a state patty's day
level party, I'd be for it. But I dont. You still have a negative
track record and I'll speak for myself when I say I'm tired of the
house being fucking disgusting since it's just finally looking clean.

Furthermore, matters like this are not "decided" by 8 people being for
something. If someone (let alone multiple people) are seriously
against something that affects the entire house, then you owe it to
them to respect their wishes.

I'll be the dick. I'll be the party-killing asshole - I don't want it.

It's a resounding NO from the ground floor.  There will be no parties here this weekend.  End of discussion.

You fool [Scott Strobel]! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a [red-headed] Sicilian when death is on the line"!

Hey guys,
I hate to say, but whether or not we like it, there is going to be a
party here this weekend regardless of what the consensus is on having
one. That's the risk you take of living in a house that's not a frat
and that is relatively close to campus. Plenty of us are probably
having friends over this weekend, and things will just escalate from
there. I'm not encouraging everyone to start advertising for a party
or anything, I'm just being realistic when I say that it's going to be
hard to prevent anyone other than the 14 that live here to come into
the house for some drinks.
Lock your doors, go to the library, empty your food cabinets, take
whatever precautions you want to make sure your belongings aren't
trashed or stolen. I'm sure if someone does decide to throw a party
for their org this weekend, they will deal with whatever issues might
arise amongst themselves. I don't know why all the people in the house
are still being dicks to each other when most of us will be graduating
in two months, but it's time to stop. Where's the love? I know I'll
probably have some cleaning up to do after this weekend, because I
know I'll be drinking in the house, and I'll take responsibility for
any messes I make, but I'm prepared to do that. Try and help out a
little since you are sharing this house with 13 other guys. It's ok
once in awhile to take out the trash. It's ok to look in the fridge
and throw out stuff you forgot about from the fall. Don't expect
people to do things for you.
Take a little initiative, help out your roommates, and enjoy the last
few months we have in this house together. I'm sick of everyone
yelling at everyone via googlegroups without doing anything to help
out with the house, themselves. Scott, sorry you got stuck on the
first floor where parties are, but that's the room you chose when you
moved in last year and 2 years ago. Greg, all of us have had to stare
at your brown stuff in the kitchen for months. Justin, all of us have
to smell your stench when you erg in your room for 4 hours at a time.
Everyone contributes to this house, and everyone can make sacrifices
here and there to help out one another.
I wish all of you the best of luck this week for anyone with midterms,
and I look forward to beating you in quarters on Saturday.
Love,
Scott W.

hey guys,

so, is there going to be drinking in the house on State Patty's day?
Obviously. Does it have to be a ridiculous three kegger? No.

My sentiments aren't anti-drinking. Really, I'm a huge fan of alcohol.
It's just that the most recent batch of parties have left the house
disgusting and were poorly handled in general. I just don't want
anything crazy, and I find the blatant disregard for one's housemates
pretty offensive.

So, the main message is don't be dicks and we'll all have fun.

Love,
Greg
