NA Bullshit Bingo

Do you keep falling asleep in meetings?
What about those long and boring drug-histories
Here is a way to change all that...

1. Before (or during) your next meeting, prepare yourself
by drawing a square.  I find that a 5" x5" is a good size.
Divide the card into columns-five across and five down.
That will give you 25 one-inch blocks.

2. Write one of the following word/phrases in each block:
Such as:

Issues

Inner-child

Living Amends

Meaningful Relationship

Slip

I'm Stuck On Step __

I Couldn't  Find A Meeting

My Sponsor Has Been Out Of Town

Can't

Won't

Yeah But

But....don't you think

Misunderstood

Never

Rational Recovery

Recovering Person

Searching (as in, "for answers")

Gonna (sometimes prefaced with, "I'm")

Been thinking (sometimes prefaced with, "I've")

She/He said

Dysfunctional

I heard

Rage

I don't know much about this, but...

3. Check off the appropriate block when you hear one of those words or
phrases.

4. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or
diagonally, stand up and shout "BULLSHIT!"

TESTIMONIALS   FROM SATISFIED "NA BULLSHIT BINGO" PLAYERS:

--"I had been in the meeting for only five minutes when
I won."  Adam W., Atlanta

--"My attention span at meetings has improved dramatically."
David T., Tampa

--"What a gas!  Meetings will never be the same for me after
my first win."
Dan J., NY City

--"The atmosphere was tense in the last "Honesty" meeting
as 14 of us waited for the fifth box.
Ben G., Denver

--"The speaker was stunned as eight of us screamed out
"BULLSHIT" for the third time in 20 minutes."
"Carnie" Joe, Miami

Just For Today
May 10                              Becoming Entirely Ready

"We... get a good look at what these defects are doing to our
lives. We begin to long for freedom from these defects."
Basic Text, p. 33

Becoming entirely ready to have our defects of character removed
can be a long process, often taking place over the course of a lifetime.
Our state of readiness grows in direct proportion to our awareness of
these defects and the destruction they cause.

We may have trouble seeing the devastation our defects are inflicting
on our lives and the lives of those around us. If this is the case, we
would do well to ask our Higher Power to reveal those flaws which
stand in the way of our progress.

As we let go of our shortcomings and find their influence waning,
we'll notice that a loving God replaces those defects with quality
attributes. Where we were fearful, we find courage. Where we were
selfish, we find generosity. Our delusions about ourselves will
disappear to be replaced by self-honesty and self-acceptance.

Yes, becoming entirely ready means we will change. Each new level
of readiness brings new gifts. Our basic nature changes, and we soon
find our readiness is no longer sparked only by pain but by a desire to
grow spiritually.

Just for today: I will increase my state of readiness by becoming
more aware of my shortcomings. pg. 136

Twenty-Four Hours A Day by Hazelden/ May 10th

A.A. Thought for the Day

One thing that keeps me sober is a feeling of loyalty to
the other members of the group. I know I'd be letting
them down if I ever took a drink. When I was drinking,
I wasn't loyal to anybody. I should have been loyal to my
family, but I wasn't. I let them down by my drinking.
When I came into A.A., I found a group of people who
were not only helping each other to stay sober, but who
were loyal to each other by staying sober themselves. Am
I loyal to my group?

Meditation for the Day

Calmness is constructive of good. Agitation is destructive
of good. I should not rush into action. I should first "be
still and know that He is God." Then I should act only as God
directs me through my conscience. Only trust, perfect trust
in God, can keep me calm when all around me are agitated.
Calmness is trust in action. I should seek all things that can
help me to cultivate calmness. To attain material things, the
world learns to attain speed. To attain spiritual things, I have
to learn to attain a state of calm.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may learn how to have inner peace. I pray that
I may be calm, so that God can work through me.

Enjoying the Good Days

Good feelings can become a habitual part of our life.

There is absolutely no virtue in the unnecessary suffering, which
many of us have felt for much of our life. We don't have to allow
others to make us miserable, and we don't have to make
ourselves miserable.

A good day does not have to be the calm before the storm. That's
an old way of thinking we learned in dysfunctional systems.

In recovery, a good day or a good feeling doesn't mean we're in
denial. We don't have to wreck our good times by obsessively
searching for or creating a problem.

Enjoying our good days doesn't mean we're being disloyal to
loved ones who are having problems. We don't have to make
ourselves feel guilty because other people aren't having a good
day. We don't have to make ourselves miserable to be like them.
They can have their day and their feelings; we can have ours.

A good feeling is to be enjoyed. More than we can imagine,
good days are ours for the asking.

Today, I will let myself enjoy what is good. I don't have to wreck
my good day or good feeling; I don't have to let others spoil it
either.

Comfort For Those Who Mourn
by Marianist Mission

So many people see in death nothing but a cruel separation
from loved ones. Even good and religious people make that
sad mistake.

In death there is certainly the very real pain and sorrow
of physical separation. But it is equally true that our loved
ones remain with us. They do not just go off to some dark
and distant place. They simply continue into eternal life.
We do not see them because we are still in the darkness
of this world. But their spiritual eyes, filled with the light
of heaven, are always watching us as they wait for the day
when we shall share their perfect joy. We are born for
heaven and we end this life of tears to begin our life of
endless happiness.

I have often reflected upon this beautiful truth and found
it the greatest and surest comfort in time of mourning. A
firm faith in the real and continual presence of our loved
ones has brought the conviction and consolation that death
has not destroyed them, nor carried them away. Rather it
has given them life! A life with power to know fully and to
love perfectly. With this new life and new power our loved
ones are always present to us, knowing and loving us more
than ever before. The tears that dampen our eyes in times
of mourning are tears of homesickness, tears of longing for
our loved ones. But it is we who are away from home, not they!
Death has been for them a doorway to an eternal home. They
are still with us, lovingly and tenderly waiting for the day when
we, too, will enter the doorway of our eternal home. It is such
a mistake to see death as separation and nothing more. For
us who believe, death is a preparation for eternal union with
those we love, in the peace and joy of heaven.

My Wish

This morn I am asked to make a Wish
Not just any wish
but a deep delving into the shy parts of my heart
to see what is trying to hide there
to see what I am afraid to admit that I truly wish for

A wish is so enigmatic, isn't it?
As I say to you, Make a Wish!
what myriad images flash forth to tease your mind?
what comforting moments do you envision in your private space?
Wishes, you know, reveal so much more than we'd like to admit
sometimes
they keep parts of us alive, parts that we don't want to show
too much or too often
they serve the purpose of preserving segments of our true selves
they keep the important genuine authentic elements thriving
even when life has shot us down a notch or two
what we wish for will reveal who we still are
deep delving down

Making a wish also reveals our true opinion of our self
do I love myself enough to wish for something big bold and beautiful?
do I still hold on to the past by wishing for someone who rejects me?
do I want the juiciest parts of the best that love/life has to offer?

This morning, Make a Wish...
and mine is
wishing you all
you wish for

Love

Anatomy of a Recovered Suicide

She knew she was different and had no real connection
Her body, mind and thoughts never fit anywhere
Not even in the privacy of her mind, they were wrong,
Or bad or misplaced only there to cause pain.

The journey to end the pain came early and intensely
She looked to every person, place or thing to fill the awful chasm
Which she felt with the constancy and relentlessness
Of pounding ocean waves in her mind.

Everywhere and to everyone she looked the hatred she felt
for herself was reflected

Why didn't they see the desperation she felt to be loved and
meant only, to be kind, loving and beautiful, helpful and strong,
each time she reached with her heart or hand it was rejected
and pushed back, amplifying her personal hate

The hate grew in intense white heat only quenched by the touch
or words others . Her need became overwhelming the suffocation
she was feeling was projected out . Always relentlessly needing
to be filled and rescued from the person she had become
An empty shell, certain that she held no value to the world or
anyone.

Time passed and the girl grew in to a woman
the intensity and need grew and covered here like a poison river
The loving soul broke through and endeared her to many people
That subsequently drives away the pain

What really was the point of all this, no amount of love, possessions,
substances . Relieved the constant pain and desire to escape
Her thoughts move to permanent solutions to end it all,
Reviewed in her mind over and over and finding no peace in that

The permanence of a solution brought her to a crossroad to end the
life she knew  The end came by the death of the person she had
become and the rebirth of the person she was at the beginning of
her life The pain has ended now through a choice of life and love
and soul.

A reconnection through a sober and deliberate existence
Following with the discipline of love shown by the Father
As the love radiates from her soul and grows the, the pain slowly
subsides
She slowly emerges from the fog of her life, into the sunshine

The pain is now controlled by love, by her reaching out her hand
She extends a smile, a soft touch and a kind word like the teachings
of humanity The reflection from the people she touches and sees is
in kind A passion for life that surpasses all understanding of the
mortal world.

Ending is Beginning

Walking out the door of Life
I find myself in a void.
Nothing moves. No color. No sound.
I wander forever it seems,
But I have no measure of time.
I wonder: Will this be my death?
The silence bothers me
and I begin to yell:
I want to go home! I want to Live!
My decision made,
I struggle anew
To find my new path and new ways to play.
I know I can make it
I just have to try
I can't go back out there
I DON'T WANT TO DIE!
