Mother:
You are the cradling arm --
the soothing coo.
You are comfort in times of fear.
When love feels lost,
you are the beacon
that brings it safely and softly
home once more.
You are constant
and steady
as ancient rivers are,
washing hope over
soul stones in your bed,
whisking worries away to the
vastness of your sea.
You are deep, deep peace
amidst a world of strife.
Your heart contains the cosmos,
and shines brightly in the lives
of all the lucky souls you touch.
Heavens and hearts are better
because of your love.
Thank you for being you.

With love, for mothers everywhere,

Just For Today
May 13                                    Onward On The Journey

"The progression of recovery is a continuous uphill journey"
 Basic Text, p. 79

The longer we stay clean, the steeper and narrower our path seems to
become. But God doesn't give us more than we can handle. No matter
how difficult the road becomes, no matter how narrow, how winding
the turns, there is hope. That hope lies in our spiritual progression.

If we keep showing up at meetings and staying clean, life gets... well,
different. The continual search for answers to life's ups and downs can
lead us to question all aspects of our lives. Life isn't always pleasant.
This is when we must turn to our Higher Power with even more faith.
Sometimes all we can do is hold on tight, believing that things will get
better.

In time, our faith will produce understanding. We will begin to see the
"bigger picture" of our lives. As our relationship with our Higher Power
unfolds and deepens, acceptance becomes almost second nature. No
matter what happens as we walk through recovery, we rely on our faith
in a loving Higher Power and continue onward.

Just for today: I accept that I don't have all the answers to life's
questions. Nonetheless, I will have faith in the God of my understanding
and continue on the journey of recovery. pg. 139

Joyful Discoveries

We realize we know only a little.  God will constantly disclose more to
you and to us.  Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do
each day for the man who is still sick.  The answers will come, if your
own house is in order.  But obviously you cannot transmit something
you haven't got.  See to it that your relationship with Him is right, and
great events will come to pass for you and countless others.  This is
the Great Fact for us.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p.  164

Sobriety is a journey of joyful discovery.  Each day brings new
experience, awareness, greater hope, deeper faith, broader tolerance.
I must maintain these attributes or I will have nothing to pass on.

Great events for this recovering alcoholic are the normal everyday
joys found in being able to live another day in God's grace.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day by Hazelden/ May 13th

A.A. Thought for the Day

In A.A. we find fellowship and release and strength. And
having found these things, the real reasons for our drinking
are taken away. Then drinking has no more justification in
our minds. We no longer need to fight against drink. Drink
just naturally leaves us. At first, we are sorry that we can't
drink, but we get so that we are glad that we don't have to
drink. Am I glad that I don't have to drink?

Meditation for the Day

Try never to judge. The human mind is so delicate and so
complex that only its Maker can know it wholly. Each mind
is so different, actuated by such different motives,
controlled by such different circumstances, influenced
by such different sufferings, you cannot know all the
influences that have gone to make up a personality.
Therefore, it is impossible for you to judge wholly that
personality. But God knows that person wholly and He can
change it. Leave to God the unraveling of the puzzles of
personality. And leave it to God to teach you the proper
understanding.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may not judge other people. I pray that I may
be certain that God can set right what is wrong in every
personality.

Today's Thought
MAY 13

You are reading from the book The Language of Letting Go.

Property Lines

A helpful tool in our recovery, especially in the behavior we call
detachment, is learning to identify who owns what. Then we let
each person own and possess his or her rightful property.

If another person has an addiction, a problem, a feeling, or a
self-defeating behavior, that is their property, not ours. If
someone is a martyr, immersed in negativity, controlling, or
manipulative behavior, that is their issue, not ours.

If someone has acted and experienced a particular consequence,
both the behavior and the consequence belong to that person.

If someone is in denial or cannot think clearly on a particular issue,
that confusion belongs to him or her.

If someone has a limited or impaired ability to love or care, that
is his or her property, not ours. If someone has no approval or
nurturing to give away, that is that person's property.

People's lies, deceptions, tricks, manipulations, abusive behaviors,
inappropriate behaviors, cheating behaviors, and tacky behaviors
belong to them, too. Not us.

People's hope and dreams are their property. Their guilt belongs
to them too. Their happiness or misery is also theirs. So are their
beliefs and messages.

If some people don't like themselves, that is their choice. Other
people's choices are their property, not ours.

What people choose to say and do is their business.

What is our property? Our property includes our behaviors,
problems, feelings, happiness, misery, choices, and messages;
our ability to love, care, and nurture; our thoughts, our denial, our
hopes and dreams for ourselves. Whether we allow ourselves to
be controlled, manipulated, deceived, or mistreated is our
business.

In recovery, we learn an appropriate sense of ownership. If
something isn't ours, we don't take it. If we take it, we learn to
give it back. Let other people have their property, and learn to
own and take good care of what's ours.

Today, I will work at developing a clear sense of what belongs
to me, and what doesn't. If it's not mine, I won't keep it. I will deal
with my issues, my responsibilities, and myself. I will take my
hands off what is not mine.

Mothers....

For those lucky to still be blessed with your Mom,This is beautiful. For those of us who aren't, this is Even more beautiful. For those who are moms, you'll love this.

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. 'Is This the long way?' she asked. And the guide said: 'Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it... ButThe end will be better than the beginning.' But the young mother was happy, and she would not Believe that anything could be better than these years.

So she Played with her children, and gathered flowers for Them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and
The sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried,'Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.'

Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was Dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother Drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said, 'Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come.'

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and The children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children,' A little patience and we are there.'So the children climbed, and when they reached the top
They said, 'Mother, we would not have done it without you.'

And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up At the stars and said, 'This is a better day than the last, for my Children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage.
Today, I 've given them strength.'

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened The earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped And stumbled, and the mother said: 'Look up. Lift your eyes to the light. ' And the children looked and saw above the clouds
An everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the Darkness. And that night the Mother said, 'This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God.'

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and The years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent.
But her children were tall and strong, and walked with Courage. And when the way was rough, they lifted her, For she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill,
And beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And Mother said, 'I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end Is better than the beginning, for my children can
Walk alone, and their children after them.'

And the children said, 'You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.'And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates Closed after her. And they said: 'We cannot see her But she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She Is a living presence.......'

Your Mother is always with you... She's the whisper Of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach In your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand
On your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives Inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop. She's the place you came from, your first home; and
she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love And your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can
Separate you.

Not time, not space... Not even death!

MAY WE NEVER TAKE OUR MOTHERS FOR GRANTED

Nurture

Who sees us with eyes ever loving as Mother,
tending and nurturing unlike any other?
She forgives our faux pas, overlooking our worst...
encouraging and supportive from the moment of birth.
Caring for children ~ the most incredible role
ascribed to humanity, precious value untold.
Living expressions of God's loving blessing,
mother lives in our hearts from her innate nurturing.
Man, woman or child ~ all are called to her example...
to cherish unendingly, by Love's highest standards.

Great Teachers

Computers and technology made Ross Perot a wealthy man. But
his greatest teacher was not a university professor or a computer
expert. It was his mother - who raised him before the phrase "computer
age" was ever coined.

He remembers the little things she did which taught him to be the
kind of man he eventually became. Like showing generosity and
compassion.

During the Great Depression, "hoboes" regularly knocked on their
door asking for a little food. One day one of these visitors told his
mother why. Out on the curb in front of their house an earlier hobo had
placed a white mark, indicating to later travelers that their house was an
"easy mark." Young Ross asked his mother if she wanted him to erase
the white mark. She told him to leave it there. He never forgot that
tiny act of compassion.

Ross Perot believed he received his greatest learnings from his mother.
Her lessons were the kind he could never pick up in a school. Her
influence in shaping his life was beyond measure.

You, too, are teaching powerful lessons simply by the way you live.

MOM  - Job Description

Position

Mother, Mom, Mama, Mommy, Momma, Ma

Job Description

Long term, team players needed, for challenging permanent work in an, often chaotic environment. Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include evenings and weekends and frequent 24 hour shifts on call.

Some overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in far away cities. Travel expenses not reimbursed. Extensive courier duties also required.

Responsibilities

The rest of your life. Must be willing to be hated, at least temporarily, until someone needs $5. Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly. Also, must possess the physical stamina of a pack mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in case, this time, the screams from the backyard are not someone just crying wolf. Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges, such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers. Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple homework projects.

Must have ability to plan and organize social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks. Must be willing to be indispensable one minute, an embarrassment the next. Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million cheap, plastic toys, and battery operated devices. Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end product. Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility.

Possibility for Advancement and Promotion

Virtually none. Your job is to remain in the same position for years, without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills,so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you.

Previous Experience

Unfortunately, none required. On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.

Wages and Compensation

Get this! You pay them! Offering frequent raises and bonuses. A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent. When you die, you give them whatever is left. The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.

Benefits

While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock options are offered; this job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth and free hugs for life if you play your cards right.

Growing Pains

In this life there will be bridges that you must cross alone.
There will be decisions that you must make on your own.
Some things you must learn from your own mistakes
and there will be times when you feel your heart will break.

I wish I never had to leave you to face this world alone,
but I know there will come a time when I must let go.
If I could take your heartaches and toss them to the wind,
I would wipe away your tears and replace them with a grin.

I know I'll make mistakes while you are growing up,
and if at times I am too hard, please know it's out of love.
I'm just a mere parent with a child that I adore and
I don't have all the answers to protect you from this world.

So in the years ahead I'll spend much time in prayer,
asking God for wisdom to teach you right from wrong and
for the strength to let you go, so He can make you strong.
I'll ask Him to go with you on your journey through this life
and always to protect you and help you get it right.

Of all the things I teach you I hope these stand out most,
Pray and Believe and always put Love first.

There's a Reflection Pool in the Butterfly Garden
At the foot of the sundial
that reads "I only record sunny hours"
Flat stones invite kneeling, squatting
before a carpet of green lush grass growing
and Daffodils have their brilliant faces on parade
Today I have this special privilege
the garden to myself
I am in wealth today ~ I have a pool
A bouquet of yellow flowers
Little creatures under the water
Rich growing plants surrounded

This place is like my room for improvement
Spacious, inviting, tender feel for my soul
When I get soul-thirsty I come to the pool
So it can feed me slivers of the sun
scallops of clouds on its blissful surface
I can see myself in the depth/height
as the pool sees me
sufficient comfort
then I know I am not invisible
I am able to grasp things more firmly
when I can sense myself
when I know I am Home

The One Flaw In Women

By the time the Lord made woman, He was into his sixth day of working overtime. An angel appeared and said, 'Why are you spending so much time on this one?' And the Lord answered, 'Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart -and she will do everything with only two hands.'

The angel was astounded at the requirements. 'Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish.'

'But I won't, ' the Lord protested. 'I am so close to finishing this creation that  is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days.'

The angel moved closer and touched the woman. 'But you have made her so soft, Lord.' 'She is soft,' the Lord agreed, 'but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish.'

'Will she be able to think?', asked the angel.
The Lord replied, 'Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate.'

The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek. 'Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one.'

'That's not a leak,' the Lord corrected, 'that's a tear!'
'What's the tear for?' the angel asked.

The Lord said, 'The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her pride.'
The angel was impressed.
'You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything!
Woman is truly amazing.'

And she is! Women have  strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes  and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE TINY FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

This is just to thank the amazing women in my life who have helped me in ways they'll never know.

One of the very few reasons I had any respect for my mother when I was
thirteen was because she would reach into the sink with her bare hands -
bare hands - and pick up that lethal gunk and drop it into the garbage.  To
top that, I saw her reach into the wet garbage bag and fish around in there
looking for a lost teaspoon.  Bare hands - a kind of mad courage.
