March 2
Today I am letting go of all energy
that is resisting the truth about me.
That energy is being replaced with positive and loving energy,
and I am accepting that I am okay just the way that I am.
I am now open to see the miracle of love in my life.

What Was That Addicts Name?

What was that addicts name? Remember that one addict
who used to come to meetings awhile back? The one you
remember who used to share so honestly with a lot of passion.
The one who used to talk about their love for Narcotics
Anonymous and recovery and the fellowship. You know the
addict that was at the meetings who seemed to have grasp
of the Twelve Steps. Who seemed to welcome newcomers,
offered their phone number to them. Don't you remember
their name, they used attend a lot of meetings regularly.
Was once a trusted servant for their home group. They
opened that one meeting for long time. A lot of good things
started to happen in their lives, school religion, new relationship,
new promotion at work. They slowly over time  have drifted
away from NA meetings and service to others, the one thing
they used to talk about in meetings that meant so much to them.

I heard from someone or was it that article in the paper or was
it the obituary section. I caught a fleeting glimpse of their name.
Dead from the horrors of addiction. Left a family of loved ones.
I forget where I read that just as I have forgot their name until
I read about it. Died listed as a transient, cremated and the ashes
sent to the family.

Now I remember who that addict was. I also remember why I
remember them. It was how the disease of addiction took over
their life clean. As the question in the Basic Text says Do we know
that our addiction changed us into someone we didn't want to be:
dishonest, deceitful, self-willed people at odds with ourselves and
our fellow man? I remember now what happened they shared in a
meeting how they were at odds with fellow NA members, that all
these new-comers weren't sharing what they needed to hear, were
acting out on sick behavior that at one time they had done
themselves. I remember addicts sharing with them I remember
sharing myself to. But the disease of addiction was too powerful.
Addict ego too powerful and words fell to the wayside. I remember
now they said" Oh I already know that". "I know where the meetings
are when it gets bad I come back" .

Maybe you can remember their name?

Just For Today
March 2                                                      Success

"Any form of success was frightening and unfamiliar"
 Basic Text, p. 14

Before coming to NA, few of us had much experience with success.
Every attempt to stop using on our own had ended in failure. We had
begun to give up hope of finding any relief from active addiction. We
had grown accustomed to failure, expecting it, accepting it, thinking it
was just part of our makeup.

When we stay clean, we begin to experience success in our lives.
We begin to take pride in our accomplishments. We start to take
healthy risks. We may take some knocks in the process, but even
these can be counted as successes if we learn from them.

Sometimes when we fulfill a goal, we hesitate to "pat ourselves on
the back" for fear that we will seem arrogant. But our Higher Power
wants us to succeed, and wants us to share with our loved ones the pride
we take in our accomplishments. When we share our successes with
others in NA, they often begin to believe that they can achieve their
goals as well. When we succeed, we help lay the groundwork for others
who follow in our path.

Just for today: I will take time to savor my successes. I will share
my victories with an "attitude of gratitude"

The Gift Of Laughter

At this juncture, his A.A. sponsor usually laughs.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p.  26

Before my recovery from alcoholism began, laughter was one of the most
painful sounds I knew.  I never laughed and I felt that anyone else's
laughter was directed at me!  My self-pity and anger denied me the simplest
of pleasures or lightness of heart.  By the end of my drinking not even
alcohol could provoke a drunken giggle in me.

When my A.A. sponsor began to laugh and point out my self-pity and
ego-feeding deceptions, I was annoyed and hurt, but it taught me to lighten
up and focus on my recovery.  I soon learned to laugh at myself and
eventually I taught those I sponsor to laugh also.  Every day I ask God to
help me stop taking myself too seriously.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day by Hazelden/ March 2nd

A.A. Thought for the Day

Over a period of drinking years, we've proved
to ourselves and to everybody else that we
can't stop drinking by our own willpower.  We
have been proved helpless before the power
of alcohol.  So the only way we could stop
drinking was by turning to a Power greater
than ourselves.  We call that Power God.  The
time that you really get this program is when
you get down on your knees and surrender
yourself to God, as you understand Him.
Surrender means putting your life into God's
hands.  Have I made a promise to God that I
will try to live the way He wants me to live?

Meditation for the Day

Spirit-power comes from communication with God
in prayer and times of quiet meditation.  I must
constantly seek spirit-communication with God.
This is a matter directly between me and God.
Those who seek it through the medium of the
church do not always get the joy and the wonder
of spirit communication with God.  From this
communication comes life, joy, peace, and healing.
Many people do not realize the power that can
come to them from direct spirit-communication.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may feel that God's power is mine.
I pray that I may be able to face anything through
that power.

Today's Thought
MARCH 02

Feelings on the Job

Im furious about my job. Another man got a promotion that I believe I
deserve. Im so mad I feel like quitting. Now my wife says I should deal with
my feelings. What good will that does? He still got the promotion.
--Anonymous

Our feelings at work are as important as our feelings in any other area of
our life. Feelings are feelings - and wherever we incur them, dealing with
them is what helps us move forward and grow.

Not acknowledging our feelings is what keeps us stuck and gives us
stomachaches, headaches, and heartburn.

Yes, it can be a challenge to deal with feelings on the job. Sometimes,
things can appear useless. One of our favorite tricks to avoid dealing with
feelings is telling ourselves its useless.

We want to give careful consideration to how we deal with our feelings on
our job. It may be appropriate to take our intense feelings to someone not
connected to our workplace and sort through them in a safe way.

Once weve experienced the intensity of the feelings, we can figure out what
we need to do to take care of ourselves on the job.

Sometimes, as in any area of our life, feelings are to be felt and accepted.
Sometimes, they are pointing to a problem in us, or a problem we need to
resolve with someone else.

Sometimes, our feelings are helping to point us in a direction. Sometimes,
theyre connected to a message, or a fear: Ill never be successful. . .. Ill
never get what I want. . .. Im not good enough. . . .

Sometimes, the solution is a spiritual approach or remedy. Remember,
whenever we bring a spiritual approach to any area of our life, we get the
benefit.

We wont know what the lesson is until we summon the courage to stand still
and deal with our feelings.

Today, I will consider my feelings at work as important as my feelings at
home or anywhere else. I will find an appropriate way to deal with them.

LOVE AND APPROVE OF YOURSELF

Learning to love and approve of yourself is a key which will unlock your
treasure chest of abundance, prosperity, and love.

I always highly recommend that people love, love, love, love themselves,
give themselves a hug, a pat on the back! You're the best you there is in
the whole world, there ain't nobody else in the Universe quite like you! If
you are really brave try the following exercise:

Grab yourself a mirror, look yourself square in the eye, and proclaim to
yourself, right out loud and with great confidence, gusto, and enthusiasm:
"You are beautiful! You are the very best you on the planet! You're a
walking miracle!!! I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I JUST LOVE YOU TO BITS!"
Now, hold your own hand, (right hand in left) and say, "Thank you, I love
you too!" Now you may want to lay down and rest for awhile, because you have
just gone a long, long way in a very short time, and it can wear a person
out.

It is quite all right to love your self; there is nothing perverse,
narcissistic, or selfish about it (and it won't make you go blind or grow
hair on the palms of your hands). In fact, it is an absolute prerequisite to
living a life that is full, content and happy. After all, how could you
expect any one else to love you, if you don't love, or even like your self?
Furthermore, if you don't like or love yourself, you may unconsciously
assume that someone else that does want to love you is nuts, and not even
want to associate with a person like that.

It may help to think of it like this: If you love some one else it only
stands to reason that you would want the best of everything for them. You
would want them to have an abundance of love. You would want them to have an
abundance of trusted and loyal friends. You would want them to have a
wardrobe of beautiful clothing. You would want them to be employed in work
that is fulfilling, satisfying, and richly rewarding in every way including
financially. You would want them to have a beautiful car, one that they
really enjoy driving. You would want them to be healthy in every way. You
would want them to be emotionally well balanced. You would want them to
treat themselves with care. You would want them to have plenty of healthy
wholesome foods to eat. You would want them to be strong and vibrant. You
would want them to get plenty of sleep, rest, and recreation. You would want
them to.............. BE HAPPY, LOVED, AND LOVING!

Furthermore, you would do everything in your power to see to it that they
had all that they desire. You would go to the ends of the Earth for them.
You would write them love letters and mushy poems. You would invest quality
time with them: long walks, picnics, movies, drives in the country, in short
you would share with them whatever it is that they like to do best. Love
YOURSELF FIRST, do all of these things for yourself. Treat yourself in the
same ways described above, and then you will have all of this to share with
your family, friends and loved ones. You can't give out something you don't
have. Love yourself and you will have an abundance of love to give away to
others. Always, always, always try to give more than you receive, especially
where love is concerned What you give out always comes back multiplied.

The idea of self-love is very scary to many people because of belief systems
installed by advertising, and by usually well meaning family, friends,
teachers, etc. We all have been told that we're not good enough, don't
measure up, too tall, too short, etc., etc. After a while we unconsciously
begin to believe these concepts about ourselves. I call them transparent
beliefs; they are solidly in place, but we can't see them nor are we
consciously aware of them. However, they affect our lives in a big way
because we filter our response to life's events through them. Negative
transparent belief systems can be stubborn to change, because they are
deeply rooted. A good way to begin to erode away negative transparent belief
systems is with positive affirmations; statements about yourself that are
positive, personal and persistence. Here are some good examples from Louise
Hay's book, "You Can Heal Your Life":

I love my self; therefore I take loving care of my body.
I love my self; therefore I work at a job that I truly enjoy doing.
I love my self; therefore I provide my self with a comfortable home
that fills my needs and is a pleasure to be in.
I love myself; therefore I live totally in the now, experiencing each moment
as good and knowing that my future is bright and joyous and secure.

Start working with these and then create new affirmations that will build
self-esteem and self-love, moving you towards the life you dream of and
deserve.

Rick Nichols

Teach me How to Pray

Please teach me, God ...
I want to know
Exactly how to pray.
I need some words
Which ones are right?
Please tell me what to say.

I've bowed my head
I have knelt down,
But ... should I be upright?
I've closed my eyes,
I've raised my hands,
Or ... should I fold them tight?

Do I stand up?
Should I sit down?
Dear Lord ... what do you like?
Are lights turned on
Or are they off?
Maybe ... candle light?

Wear my glasses?
Take them off?
Be at my desk or table?
Should I whisper?
Speak out loud?
Do I quote the Bible?

What do you think
About the time?
Do You prefer the dawn?
Should I pray fast,
Or keep it slow?
Better short ... or long?

I'm new at this
What are the rules?
I want to do it right.
How do I know
You'll even hear
That I am in Your sight?

And while I sat there quietly,
Waiting for some sign,
I heard a gentle voice say,
"Oh, dearest child of mine ...
Do you think I really care
About the time of day,
Or whether you are standing up,
Or kneeling when you pray?"

"I don't care about your posture,
Or about the place you choose;
Just open up your soul to me,
I have no other rules.
Tell me what is in your heart,
And tell me what you seek;
Tell me of your sorrows,
And of those things that made you weak."

"Speak to me in private
About what concerns you most;
I know about your good deeds ...
You have no need to boast.
My child, you don't need lessons,
Just talk to me each day;
Tell me anything you want, dear child,
Anyone can pray."

Lord Keep Me Humble

Lord keep me humble,
Let me not be deceived,
By all the good that's in my life,
Remind me that I have a daily reprieve.

I see the human suffering,
Broken lives and broken dreams,
They were once productive people,
They forgot the daily reprieve.

I listen to their stories,
I can hear their self-hate,
Demoralized and guilty,
They think they are doomed by fate.

I ask you to work through me, Lord,
Give me the right words to say,
To shed some light and hope,
That they might find their way.

I too am a broken person,
An addict with some fears,
I struggle with self-doubt,
And compare myself to my peers,

Lord, keep me humble,
Remind me that it's you,
Who is working through me,
In everything I do.

I know the danger involved,
In thinking I am less than or better,
I though I was cured,
And nearly lost all forever.

Lord, work through me,
Give me strength for everyday,
Let me carry the message of hope,
And for my clean time always pray....
