Dear all,

After our discussion about "Surfing in China : exploitation or good
opportunity ?", i am opening this topic specificaly about lifesaving /
lifeguarding in China.
As we mentionned earlier, this is a *condition* to develop surfing in
China... real surfing, at the beach level, and not only marketing and
"selling the lifestyle".
We're talking about surfboard rental, surf schools and surf-related
activities.

Could anyone tell if there is something like this :

in China or Hong Kong for the lifeguards ?

This is a slideshow of French lifeguards training in real [moderate]
surf conditions. Only music so no need to speak the language.

- Yannick.

Dear friends,

Happy new year, and thank you Yannick for your video, I wish we had something like that here in Mainland China.

As you may deduce from my comment, I do not think there is such a thing like well trained lifeguards here in Xiamen. That is quite a contradiction as we live on a island. Lifeguards are scarce and judging by their appearance and my long experience with the Chinese way of doing things I think my doubts are understandable.

I am talking about the place where I live, I am not sure about other cities or islands and I do not know if there is a standardized regulation in matter of lifesaving in sea waters.

So far, beaches are mostly unwatched and people unaware of dangers.

But I have found out there is a volunteer rescue team that operates in Xiamen. They mostly perform fresh water and mountain lifesaving.

Yannick, since you are very well experienced, do you think we might start something with them?
