1- The great cleanup, take two : 26 march 2011
As you may know we have launched the second edition of our China-wide
beach cleanup : see attached flyer. This year we are stressing the
importance of talking with the local populations to raise awareness on
the subject of a clean environment, share point of views and build
mutual respect (if not agreement).
We are coordinating the event with Surfrider Foundation, so that you
might feel a sense of greater greatness doing it. This is also a good
take to speak about the environment as a whole, since your own local
initiative will be reproduced thousand times on all shorelines across
the world on the same day. Hainan island though will be cleaner one week
earlier, as the event happens on 19 march. Check the well known
www.SurfingHainan.com for more details.
Please remember to document your actions and send us feedback
afterwards, so that we can write about it and broadcast widely. Last
year you all picked up gloriously about 300 kilos of trash... we’ll see
what can be done this time.
For the record, the complete report published in 2010 is here :

2- The great paddle : Hong Kong to Beijing
It’s on its way… after several *years* of studying the best trajectory
for a long-range expedition, Kevin and his crew of kayakers will leave
Hong Kong in april 2012 (repeat : 2012) and paddle their vessels through
the South China Sea... 4.000 kilometers... with Beijing in mind 6 months
later.
Woa.
Check out www.ChinaByKayak.com we'll keep you posted about this
expedition. Press support and sponsors welcome.

3- The great meltdown
It was a quiet friday afternoon in Japan… then all of a sudden things
went a bit out of control.
Beyond the quake and beyond the tsunami, we are urging everyone to stop
considering waterfront properties as valuable real-estate, unless it is
built above 50 meters (50 feet) in altitude and 1 kilometer (0.5 mile)
inland.
Oh and stop believing nuclear energy is safe and clean, too.

Newer news in our next newsletter.
Sincerely yours,
- Yannick, the editor.
