Bill is sad and doesn't want to write to the group, but we need to go ahead and pull the plug on the event this year. While it seems like the idea and concept are good, we can't seem to get enough people to be able to attend in the same time and space to get the event to gel and take a life of its own.

That said, we are looking at next year with interest because we do want to see this event become whatever it is meant to become and it does not feel done yet. My feeling is that the issue of trading needs to be addressed. To be effective with trading, we need to plan ahead to do things like can and preserve foods and whatnot to trade. I think that if we start "selling" the event as a place to hang and trade, we'll get more people. Bill and I are both connected via social media to people up and down the route now. Several of those people are talking about bounty and wanting to trade, especially crops right now. Anyway.....

Bill also brings up that we could look at a different date. He liked the idea of hanging the gathering on a naturally occuring, non-calender based event ( the metor shower). Other than that, we could look at options about what this little seed on an event might grow into.

Thoughts?

One quick thought... if you are looking to build up a trading core to the event... later in the year would be better.  Probably late September or early august... and then you would probably want to hold it at a more southerly location.  I know for me, I won't get into heavy preserving for at least another month from now.......

one thought i had was to piggy back onto another event like Winter
Count (in feburary - maricopa, arizona) or Rabbit Stick (in september
- Rexburg, Idaho). these primitive gatherings provide a large base of
freely shared skills, a couple hundred people attend, a trading
blanket, private camp grounds, two meals a day all for about 300
dollars and the events are a week long. there are too many skills
shared to list here but just few are : basket weaving, friction fire,
primitive bow hunting, making cordage, plant identification, making
buckskin clothing, tracking, and on and on... the event also is Open
Source - so anyone wanting to share or if your looking to hold talks,
or impromptu symposiums it's all facilitated by the open source
environment. in other words, it's an event of events. just an idea.
not to mention there are dozens and dozens of people interested in
creating community at these events.

i really wish i could have been there, but i am 3000 milesw away with no funds to leave right now.

i think it would be good if someone called the reservation place and reopened the site so someone else can use it. does bill still have the link i sent?
