made several calls. No one at the ranger station seemed to know for sure, but they thought there was a hand pump well and a spigot with *possibly* potable water......she thought if it came from a spigot, it should be potable.

don't know how reliable the info is, because she didn't even know of the campground or it's location.....i had to look it up for her :-)

I am getting so excited. Anyone else coming?

I have a friend coming from washington who is not registered yet. Is there room for him?

Heh, I was just about to write and say that I did some phone calls too today. My person told me there was no drinking water. Who knows what that really means, though, in regards to what your person said. I would say let's bring our own water and if there's potable water then we won't have to skimp.

And yes, there is definitely room for your friend. I know Dom is coming down from Washington (and maybe Charlie and family?) - so you two should chat and see if a carpool can be arranged.

See you all soon!

Had to call my friend, who has respiratory issues, to let him know about the smoke.....he may have to cancel. He's checking it out....also the elevation issue. A nearby campground (wrangell) is at 6400 ft.

anyhow, mike is willing to bring dom if he can tolerate the smoke....

Update:

I was just at beaver sulphur. The gates are locked, and it is occupied by a group, so no idea about the water. There is a stream running near it. I am back at jackson campground 3 miles away to stay til friday...have cel reception here. (none at beaver sulphur). I can be reached at 570-793-6765 with any questions.

Will check tomorrow....there is a burn ban in effect. Don't know how it affects beaver s........

Btw....beaver s. Is in a deep canyon. We will have to go somewhere else to see the meteors :-)

Reminder, the lock combination is 0-8-1-1

Katie, exciting to know you're already out there - wish I was, I'm looking forward to this weekend! Thanks for your cell, glad you have reception. Since you're already down there we'll assume you're the main contact for people arriving... if that's ok. :-)

I'll be sending a final logistical e-mail this evening (around 5:00?) to include things like water, food, fees, what-to-brings, etc. If you know that you're leaving today and won't be around to check that e-mail, call me on my cell to get all necessary info: 541-505-6659.

Hey, aaron-
I will be glad to do whatever is necessary! I have paid for my spot here in jackson campground (3 miles west of beaver sulphur) until tomorrow afternoon, so as to have cell / internet reception until it's time to open the gates.

it's beautiful here!

Hi everyone! Bill and I are sad we can't make it this year. Lots of energy moving here right now that we have to tend to.

Rob headed up today and is taking the 1 along the coast. He'll arrive in the area tomorrow. Katie- he's a skinny dude probably wearing black or gray with a cap pf some sort. He'll be a great scout to get things started for the evening.

Bill and I will be around this weekend and could do some web chatting if ever people venture out to the net world. We've just had a roomate ( Dave) leave our house and that means we are gaining an actual office with a door. We are rather excited as we both work from home now, which looks like a great plan on paper. : }

Erin really wanted to come this year. She talks about last year often. Logan, however, is at an age where this camp area sounded stressful to me. He had such fun being a Barbarian Baby last year, I know this year would be amplified. He's totally a Little Dude now. Morgan, who rocked that Mohawk to school last year, is looking forward to school starting and is really happy not to have to go in the car for a long trip right now.

There is a restaurant in Jacksonville called the Bella that we love. My dad owns a house just up the road.

It's rented out so we can't just visit. Anyway..... great food for those that like eating out some when they adventure.

Anyway.... a good time will likely be had by all. Bill and I will be very curious to see what bubbles out of the stew pot this year.

I am so sad you won't be here....you will be in my thoughts. I was in san francisco 2 weeks ago and almost called you to beg a shower. Figured i'd wait to me you up here :-(

but I am glad things are looking up for you guys. I will call you when I am down that way again.....probably heading back to fort bragg eventually this month.

I will keep an eye out for rob. Will be good to have someone besides mutt to talk to :-)
