Great saw! Another great product from Husqvarna.
By blue skies
When I purchased this saw I was nervous that it was 5cc's smaller than the previous generation's 455 Rancher it replaced. Boy was I surprised. Even with the 20" bar, it can scream through cord after cord of firewood logs, trees, without missing a beat. I've probably cut 100 trees with it over the last few months with nothing but fuel, bar oil, and intermittent re-sharpening. The integrated choke/run/kill-switch is a really nice feature as is the single nut to remove the chainsaw bar and chain tensioner. A decompression valve allows for an easier start, just like the very high displacement lumberjack saws Husqvarna is known for building.
The most important tip is to make sure the saw has fresh pre-mixed fuel (50:1), quality bar oil, and the chain is always sharp and fairly tight. It does not mean you need to buy a new chain everytime yours gets dull. If you don't know how to sharpen the chain yourself, take it to a local dealer and have it sharpened. It makes the saw cut extremely fast and efficiently, extending the life, allowing it to make big chips, and allowing everything to last longer. A sharp chain also adds to the longevity of the air filter since the saw isn't making flour-like sawdust.
Over-tightening the chain will rob the saw of power, and leaving it loose will cause it to chatter, catch, and not perform as well as an optimally tightened chain (refer to manual).
Reading the manual to understand the operation of the saw goes a long way too!
A 2-cycle saw is a very basic, reliable design that will last for many years of ownership with simple checks and occasional service. The X-Torq design has been on the market for quite a few years and it's making its way down to smaller and smaller saws, so it's a proven design.

One bolt
By Wm Arett
I'm over seventy years old, lived in Alaska for about fifty years, and live in a log cabin I built myself, and have burned wood for heat for about thirty years..
This is the first time I've ever seen a 20" gas chainsaw with only one bolt in the bar.. This tells me two things.. One, that it's the cheapest built 20" gas chainsaw that I've ever seen, and that includes some Chinese "no name" ones.. I've seen small chain saws of 12" with one bolt, and some electric chainsaws with only one bolt in the bar, but this is my first 20" chain saw with only one bolt.. Second, I know that no other 20" bar will fit this chain saw..
I know I should have returned it as soon as I saw that there was only one bolt in the bar.. But, I didn't, we see how long it lasts.. But, I sure wish I didn't buy it, and would never recommend it to a friend.. To me, it shows a lack of consideration of Husqvarna's customers.. Somebody thinks we're stupid.. I've owned it about a week, and every time I see that one bolt, I feel disgusted, so I wrote this.. If this chainsaw lasts my lifetime, I will never like it..
