Online students:

As a group, the classroom students are way ahead of you. I explained
to them the steps of the weeks 2—3 research, but we haven’t even begun
it yet because those computers in JH303 still aren’t hooked up. Even
so, many more of them have joined the group for their course, posted
messages, and uploaded files than you have, not to mention how they
turned in many more good essays yesterday. If you don’t believe the
classroom students are so far ahead of you online students, go take a
look at their work in the other group.

This situation was a sad surprise. The online students are usually way
ahead of the classroom students on reading and writing. With the first
journal post and the first essay, many times online students do seem
shy to be the first to post, but I fully expected to see all your e1.1
work this morning, all posted between 11:30 and 11:59 PM last night.

Those of you who have done the weeks 2—3 research and journal and
submitted e1.1 here (and those who have submitted e1.1 through the
classroom section group and on paper to my mailbox in the English
Department, JH303), thanks for keeping up.

Those who have not posted any journal notes and who did not submit
e1.1 must decide quickly what they plan to do this term. Please get
back on schedule. Post e1.2 by this Saturday, 9/27. Post e1.3 by
Saturday, 10/4. Do the optional bonus e1.b for 10/11. Catch up on the
journal as a secondary priority. Journal work can be made up later,
but no late essays are accepted. Students who do this can still manage
e1 with good scores, even after completely missing e1.1.

Attend the Saturday classroom section for any part of class if
possible with any questions (JH303, 9:00 AM—noon). Someone came by
Saturday but left a note apologizing for interrupting instead of
asking a question. (I saw you briefly, but after I turned around
again, you were gone.) You online students are completely welcome to
join us in the classroom for any part of the class, to participate in
the discussion or ask a question about the assignments.

Online students:

I only this weekend discovered that the schedule of classes this term
did not include information for online classes--date/time of
orientation, web address for course files, general info about online
courses' requiring computer access and more independent study, etc.
Even though the above message stands, and online students need to get
on schedule ASAP, you will find another message soon with a bit of
accommodation around the e1.b bonus option. Please submit e1.2 by
Saturday, 9/27, as stated on the syllabus. Think about everything else
second.

I was added to English 101 online #3226 class on Saturday Sept. 13th
after the Saturday 9:00-12:00 class was dismissed. I was only given a
syllabus with no explanation about the online class. Then, I was told
to copy down www.snorko.org/lacc, but I had no idea what I was suppose
to do with it. I assumed the class is done on Etudes like all of my
other online classes. So, I waited to be added to Etudes for a week.
On Saturday Sept. 20th I came to the 9:00-12:00 on campus class but I
was afraid to ask questions b/c my questions was about the online
class and I thought that would be irrelevant to the on campus class. I
did notice that that particular class was ahead. I didn't want to hold
up the class with my questions that didn't pertain to the current
lecture. I'll definitely try to catch up to the campus class so I can
join in on the class discussions and know what everyone is talking
about.
