Interested AIS Folks;

Please find attached the Request for Proposals from the Western Regional Panel on Aquatic Nuisance Species for Coordination services.

The scope of the WRP encompasses an extensive geographic range, all states and provinces west of the l00th Meridian, including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as Guam. The goal of the WRP is to protect limited western aquatic resources by preventing the introduction and spread of non-native nuisance species into western marine and freshwater systems though the coordinated management and research activities of state, tribal, federal, commercial, environmental, research entities and other regional panels. This panel of public and private entities was formed by a provision in the National Invasive Species Act of 1996 (P.L. 101-636), the amendment to the 1990 Act. The spread of nonindigenous aquatic species is causing significant economic and ecological problems throughout North America. Invasive, non-native species are one of the leading threats to the ecological integrity of forests, grasslands, and waterways.

Information about the panel can be found at http://www.fws.gov/answest

For additional information you can contact: WRP Chair Karen McDowell  at kmcd...@waterboards.ca.gov, 510-622-2398;  WRP Vice-Chair Elizabeth Brown at elizabe...@state.co.us, 303-291-7362; or myself as the current coordinator (see contact information below). Additionally, all of the WRP voting members are listed in the membership

Please feel free to spread the word and forward this announcement to other AIS-related folks or mailing lists you may have.

Sincerely,

Joanne M. Grady
