This is how today has gone so far...

Me: "Okay, so Willow is arriving in a few hours! And I'm kicking the ass of my man flu. Yes!"

Ush: "Awesome! I saw she asked about a cryptoparty? Are we having a fairly impromptu one tomorrow?"

Me: "Yeah, why not? We'll organise it for 7pm tomorrow. Infodox seems up for it too, if Arthur's Day doesn't kill him."

Mike: "A good start so. Why is Willow coming anyway?"

Me: "... for CrisisCamp Ireland this weekend?"

Mike: "Oh cool! Where is that on?"

Me: "... in the Labs. On Saturday. Did you not see the blogpost?"

Katie, Paul, Mike, Ush: "What do you mean 'in the Labs'?! What blogpost?!"

Me: "Shit..."

I'm  probably going to get lynched by the members for this one. My bad =(

So. Here we are... at this time and in this place...

Right onwards anyway! This weekend we have three free events. Read on! =)

CrisisCamp Ireland

CrisisCamp Ireland is being hosted in 091 Labs this coming Saturday, September 28th, from 10am to 5pm!

CrisisCamps are events designed to connect volunteers around the world who use creative problem solving and open technologies to help people and communities in times and places of crisis. It's going to be awesome so go register =)

Hackerspacey-type person Willow Brugh (https://twitter.com/willowbl00) has travelled over to Ireland to talk at CrisisCamp. Willow has been a co-founder of both Jigsaw Renaissance, Seattle's hackerspace, and Space Federation, a hackerspace collaboration initiative, over the last few years and she is currently the Director of Geeks Without Bounds,  an accelerator for humanitarian projects.

Cryptoparty

Willow asked if we'd be interested in running a Cryptoparty while she was visiting. We thought it was a great idea so we're having one tomorrow night (Friday, September 27th) from 7pm =) The idea behind a Cryptoparty is to facilitate people who have the desire to learn to use the most basic crypto programs and the fundamental concepts of their operation.

Artemis: 091 Labs vs WARPS (Aberystwyth)

And I've just been informed that we have been challenged by WARPSoc in Aberystwyth (a place in Wales that had a very big flood) to a game of Artemis. If you've never played Artemis before, picture yourself on the bridge of the Enterprise D controlling one of 5 consoles - science, comms, helm, engineering, or weapons. It's a savage game (and works well under WINE for us Linux heads) and this is the first time in a year that we've played against someone outside the Labs (we played Hive76 in Philadelphia a few times) so come up and take part!

I've got various commitments over the next couple of days but I should be free to drop into the Cryptoparty around 9pm on Friday, the aftermath of Crisis Camp on Saturday evening and I'm more than up for kicking some space-arse on Sunday :-)

Just noticed the time for Artemis, there'll be no space-arse kicking for me I'm afraid :-( . Do us proud, guys.

Donal O D here (from the Board Games)....

This woman, Willow, sounds amazing... if I am in town on Saturday could I pop in? Am I understanding things correctly? She is there on Saturday... for a few hours?

Hey Donal,

You can pop in at any time for CrisisCamp on Saturday, it's a fairly relaxed event, though I'd recommend sticking your name on the Eventbrite for it so they can have an idea of numbers. http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3686558596 - apparently a good few have said they plan to attend but haven't put themselves done on the register =P

Event details - http://crisiscampireland.com/event-details/

Willow arrived yesterday and she's heading off again on Sunday. She'll be at the Cryptoparty tonight and she is giving a talk at CrisisCamp in the morning sessions from around 10.45 - 11.15 or so.

A Cryptoparty is an informal way for people to learn more about the basics of cryptography. I've never been to one before so I'm afraid I can't give much more info that that! =)

Cheers,
Padraic
