From: Matteo CollinaHi Everyone,Lots of you are working on data visualization, so I'm attaching the call for proposals for a VERY COOL HACKATHON in Brussels. If you are selected, it's a FREE TRIP to Brussels, with a night at the Google offices included :).I've been there two years ago, and it was AMAZING (we placed 3rd)! I think about going there again with the same team, but you can form a DERI-team as well!Cheers,Matteo

2013 EUhackathon (‘Hack4YourRights’)
September 24th – 25th – Brussels
We have the pleasure to inform you that the 2013 edition of the EUhackathon (‘Hack4YourRights’) will take place on September 24th-25th in Brussels. The theme this year is privacy, and more specifically visualising government access to citizens’ private communications online.
The website with the call for application will go live on Monday May 6th at 4 p.m. CET. Interested candidates can submit an online application until Saturday June 15th 2013 at noon CET. Help us spread the word to attract talented applicants, or apply yourself!
European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding is likely to join the event’s awards ceremony hosted by MEP Petru Luhan on Wednesday September 25th from 16.15 to 18.00 at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The event is currently supported by Access Now, the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), Digitale Gesellschaft, the European Digital Rights initiative (EDRi), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Google, the Net Users’ Rights Protection Association (NURPA), the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN), quintessenz, Transparency International (TI) and visualizing.org.
Background
The EUhackathon participants will create visualisations, using data sets from network analysis, corporate transparency reports and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, that shed a light on the state of play of government surveillance in various countries, empowering citizens to stand up for their fundamental rights. Greater transparency and awareness are critical to ensuring government surveillance is only used when necessary and proportionate.
Selected applicants will have their travel and accommodation costs covered and the winner or winning team will be awarded €5.000, courtesy of our sponsors. Not to forget, there will also be free food and WiFi.
We remain at your disposal for any further information.
Many thanks in advance, and have nice day!
Kind regards
