Intent to Ship New Certificate Viewer Danielle Leblanc-Cyr 8/16/19 1:12 PM

Hi everyone,

We’re Carolina and Danielle, two Outreachy interns who have been working with the Security Engineering team. We’ve spent the past few months working on porting over pieces of the Certainly Something web extension (shout out to April for all of the work she put into it!), to create a new certificate viewer. We’re now at the point where we’ve landed most of our patches and the project is really coming together – we’re hoping to soon replace the existing Firefox certificate viewer.

We’ve worked really hard the past few months – getting accustomed to the Firefox codebase and workflow, learning about new tools, and creating as many tests as we could think of. We really appreciate all of the people and channels who’ve answered our (many) questions this summer, and who’ve helped to steer us in the right direction - especially our mentors, Johann, Dana and April.

The new implementation currently lives behind pref "security.aboutcertificate.enabled", which bug 1572368 will default to true. We’re hoping for this new certificate viewer to ride the trains in Firefox 71.

The summer has flown by, but we’re excited to continue contributing to Mozilla and to remain active members of this awesome community.

Thanks for all of the support!
