I've downloaded and installed the free version of sketchup (7) and now
it crashes every time I try to open it. I'm running windows vista. Any
thoughts asd to how to fix this? I re-dowloaded and tried doing a
repair install but the results are exactly the same.

This kind of error seems to come up a lot with other programs too. One
thread I read had a solution, which was the run the application as
Administrator. Try that, right-click on the SketchUp shortcut, and
choose Run as Administrator, see if that solves the problem here too.

When the program first loads it checks your system and makes some
adjustments based on what it finds.  It is suppose to save those
settings.  If the program is just not responsive, in the program go to
Window > Preferences > OpenGL and make sure the box next to Use
hardware acceleration is uncheck.   You also may need to uncheck Use
fast feedback.  Restart the program.

There is a good chance your video graphics and/or its driver has
OpenGL deficiencies.

There are some other troubleshooting things you can do

I got it to work by using a different user profile in windows vista. I
have both profiles on my computer set up as admin, but one was created
first and that is the one that will run sketchup. Not sure why, but at
least i can use it.
