Hey NORLUG,

I thought some of you might be interested in this. Myself and a half dozen other people here in Northfield have been working on putting together a Northfield Chapter of Coder Dojo. We just sent out invitations and annoucements for our first event which is this upcoming Saturday. Here's the invite and details!

What is CoderDojo?

A CoderDojo is a local chapter of an international organization of computer clubs; they bring together people ages 8 to 17 who want to learn about technology and mentors who volunteer to work with them!

It's more exploration than class - we'll show you some basics and can point you toward tutorials, but the main event is young coders taking the wheel and discovering for themselves. Mentors are there to encourage, offer suggestions and challenges, and bounce ideas around with you!

Age requirements

CoderDojo welcomes young coders between the ages of 8 and 17. If you’re under 13, a parent or guardian must register for you. Parents - if one or more of your children is under 13, we need you to remain onsite at Arcadia for the duration of the event (although whether you stay next to your young coder or in another room is for you two to decide). We appreciate your cooperation!
What to bring:

A laptop, if you have access to one (if not, we've got you covered!)
A snack, if you like (no peanuts, please!)
Creativity, excitement, and readiness to try new things!

Location & Parking

Arcadia is located just off of Highway 3, behind Perkins; it can be tricky to find the first time. Parking lots are located on both sides of the school. Follow the signs to enter through the back door and join us in the Great Room!

Register for our inaugural event this Saturday at 1:30 pm at Arcadia Charter school on Eventbright.
