This doesn't really say Chromebook or Android, but the possibility is there for one, the other, or both. This quote is rather telling though, 

The computing device could also be configured to operate based on one or more platforms (e.g., one or more similar or different platforms) that could include one or more types of hardware, software, firmware, operating systems and runtime libraries.

Virtual keyboard is a mistake.  Developing an excellent physical keyboard for a hybrid tablet laptop should be the goal.

yeah I haven't been waiting for it either. the connection for android is the chrome browser... I really think google is going to keep the two as separate entities. or maybe the dual boot thing discussed in an earlier discussion where as a phablet it's android but plugged into it's chromebox or chromebook docking station it's chromeos

That's a 2-year old patent application. The blog didn't say if it was awarded or not. It's also not really innovative. It looks like any number of "transformable tablet PCs." Maybe, as Google tends to do, they filed this rather broad and vague patent application as protection against patent trolls?
