How to decode scanned barcode?

Hey Guys I need help. I am new in Android.

I am able to scan barcode using zxing but I want to decode barcode number.
In my app I want to check whether give barcode is of particular product or not.
I read about barcode that it have some digit which represent product name.
but i am not able to find solution for this. there are some questions in my mind
1. Is it possible to decode barcode number?
2. every barcode varies in digit number then how to find whether given product is of particular type.
