For some reason I can't reply to the original thread (and the second
one) I started
regarding OWA retrieval so I have started a new one (sorry!):

Hello, we're having issues with retrieving messages from OWA. Users
can see the EAS toolbar in OWA but the rest of the message is not
retrieved when double-clicking it or when retrieving it using the EAS
open button.

We're running an Exchange 2007/Windows 2003 forest where Exchange
resides in the root and all users reside in child domains. However,
the easadmin account resides in the root domain. We have 2 CAS
servers and both configs are exactly the same and the retrieval does
not work from either. I've set the debug level to 4 on the CAS
server. CDO is also installed on both CAS servers.

Here is the entry from the log file:
[4828] 10/28/2009 1:16:02 PM Archive Services: Starting
instance...
[4828] 10/28/2009 1:16:02 PM Archive Services: COM+ security

[4828] 10/28/2009 1:16:02 PM Archive Services: Instance failed to

not uninitialized MAPI. Objects: -4
[4828] 10/28/2009 1:16:02 PM Archive Services: Instance shutdown
successful.

Here is the eas.ini config file on the CAS server:
[OWA]
CacheTTL=1440
TempDir=E:\Program Files\ZANTAZ\TEMP\
MailboxesVRoots=owa

AuthUserName=easadmin
AuthUserPassword=ahsiudnfauisndfa[suydfbaosndfuasdf
ImpersonateIISSearch=0
StubDownload=http://moeasserver1/EAS_APP/easweb.dll

A few things that I was told to check were:

1. Make sure easadmin account is an Exchange Administrator of all the
Exchange servers: It is.
2. Installing the plugin using a domain admin account: Did not work.
3. Version that's installed: 6.1.0.28
4. One of the users on another post suggested I install Exchange Mapi
CDO - I have do so w/o any luck

BTW, I think another member on this forum is having the same problem
and has not come across a solution yet.

Thanks.

Please follow the steps below to
see whether it helps.

1. Open COM+ Component. Find the "EAS.OWA.ArchSvc" COM+ Application-
>open Components then open the
Properties of "EAS.OWA.ArchSvc".
2. Enable Object Pooling and define Min 2 and Max 20 Pool Size.
3. Also you may increase the time of the Idle shutdown. Basically, 30
mins is reasonable. You can
put "Leave it running", but it's better if the application recycles
itself from time to time

Object Pooling for EAS.OWA.DSAccessSvc is optional.

After you make the change, restart EAS components service and give it
a try.

Hi,

If you have access to it I suggest you to install version EAS for OWA
version 6.1.4.6 and install the latest version of Exchange MAPI CDO.

PerArdua,

What you have suggested did not work.

Normansoth,

Unfortunately I do not have access to 6.1.4.6. I have EAS version
6.1.0.33. If you are willing to provide the version you recommend and
if it is compatible with EAS version 6.1.0.33, I'd be happy to give it
a shot.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

If you are using Windows 2003 x64 (which is likely)

Check HKLM/Software/Wow6432Node/Clients/Mail for anything other than
ExchangeMAPI.

ExchangeMAPI should be the only one there.

Under Mail, I only see folders for Hotmail and Outlook Express and reg
keys within it. Nothing for ExchangeMAPI.

HI

That registry key I gave you needs to be populated with the path to
exmapi.dll to solve the could not intialize MAPI issue that you are
having.

If you can export that key from another Windows 2003 x64 server that
hosts Exchange then you should get it working.

A possible but unclean "fix" would be to install Outlook on the
Exchnage server to provide a MAPI subsystem to use.

So, I must have had the wrong path, but that key is in there. When
you install Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration
Data Objects 1.2.1, it creates those keys. So even though this is
there, we still cannot retrieve messages via OWA. The toolbar loads
just fine, but when click a message and click the EAS Open archive
button, only the stub loads it never retrieves the message. I'm a bit
hestitant in installing Outlook on an exchange server.

Here's the latest log when trying to retrieve a message:

80040605 looks like an authentication related problem, couple of
things to try / check.

Look at the identity tab for the com+ components and check they are
set to run as easadmin, password is correct etc.

I believe easadmin needs to be in the local administrators group on
the CAS, didn't see that mentioned in your posts?

Test MAPI connectivity as easadmin from the CAS to the mailbox server,
something like installing PFDavAdmin on the CAS, then logging in /
running as EASADMIN and checking you can get into mailboxes.

Check the security log for any authentication issues on the CAS (and
probably the mailbox server too, around the time the MAPI
initialization errors occur). Might be worth checking applog + system
log too, could be windows firewall blocking the COM+ application...

If all that fails I'd try upping logging to max on the mailbox server
in Exchange, (at some quiet point), won't fix the problem but might
shed some more light on it...
