Hi all,

We have the chance of a stall at Fulford show, which is taking place on bank holiday Monday. It's only £15 for a 4mx4m pitch so I think we'd be daft not to go and make ourselves more well known in the local community.

I just wanted to check if people would be available to help out with it before confirming that we want a pitch. I will definitely be there for the full duration.

If people are available for it could you let me know asap. I've been asked to confirm if we want a pitch by Saturday but I'd rather get it sorted today if possible. I think a team of 4 or more would be nice - we could probably do it with 3 at a push but it'd be a bloody hard day for those 3 people.

If you could help out, even if just for a few hours, then please do let me know. If you could only do a few hours then if you could let me know which hours it'd be really helpful to make sure we'd have people available throughout.9 people available would be great - 9 people who can only do 11-12 not so much :D

Cheers,
Rich

Don't know, the forecast doesn't go that far ahead.

Good stuff :)

Hi

I will be able to help, I usually go to the show, and have no plans to be away then.

I have some stock of 3d printed things we could sell (flexi-rexes, sheep ...) (I would ask for 50% of the takings for material costs, this is what I did with Mrs R's organisation), if we think that is a good idea.  And I have been thinking about turning my 3d mini-minster OpenSCAD  model into a slot together laser cut plywood one.  But I would need some help with that, as we do not have long before the show.

John, ive been having a look and there seem to be a few ways to do this: could you send me an .STL and I can have a play around?

So, I guess we've got confirmation we have a stall, what needs to be done?
I guess we're taking spacehack?

T-shirts? 3d printed trinkets?

Yes to all I guess. I'm going to try to get my printer up and running for the weekend and hopefully working off a car battery so we might be able to have stuff being printed live.

T shirt printing would be good. Space hack would also be ideal.

Beyond that I think just flyers and people. We don't have that many members confirmed as attending so we don't want to take too much that needs to be looked after. I think we probably want to take the things that look the most flashy to get people over to the stall and get conversation going from there. We probably want to treat it as a marketing and networking opportunity more than a showcase.

Have we got enough car batteries/inverters to run spacehack and a printer?

Another thought... Are they giving us a table?

Hi all,

Quick summary of important times for the Fulford show for those involved. The show itself runs from 13:00-17:00. We can start setting up from 11:00. I propose that we meet at the space at 9:00 to load up cars and so on and just make quite a lazy morning of the setup. If we have free time I'm sure we could help other stalls get set up and so on or help with general setup for the show itself.

From the looks of things we don't get a table provided so we probably want to source a couple over the next few days - if anybody has a fairly sturdy folding table or three (you know, the sort that can withstand people furiously not crashing a space ship) then a lend of them would be much appreciated :D

I think that the plan is to take some 3D printed goodies to sell (thanks, John!), space hack (adapted for 12v input), a 3D printer (more easily adapted for a 12v input), and a car battery (un-adapted for 12v output). Possibly also t-shirt printing, entirely your call on that, Carwyn, since you will be the one manning it and it's a not insignificant amount of work :) Besides that obviously flyers and whatnot.

Cheers,
Rich

Should we steal a pallette desk from the space?

We could do a pallet desk for spacehack and maybe a wallpaper table with some reinforcement for the other stuff?

Hi,

I can bring 2 trapezium ( half hexagon) tables, 500mm wide, 600/1200 long).  Not folding, but sturdy.

There are a few folding tables in the theatre which we could loan out if useful - these are something like 1.7m long by close on 1m wide white (well, originally, they have been used and are less than pristine) plastic top with grey folding tubular legs.
Theres also a couple of variants of these - skinny version of the standard size, and a approx 1 meter square.
[These are the fairly ubiquitous modern white plastic folding tables used by various venues, schools etc - I am guessing the sizes from when I have had to shift the things around so I may be a bit out]

I should be able to borrow those for a day and can shunt them across to you on Monday morning if useful.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks very much for your offer. We'd love to borrow a couple if that's alright? We will already have a few but this is the first time we will be holding an event in our gazebo so we're not entirely sure what sized tables would be best. Could I be cheeky and ask to borrow a couple of each size? If would really help us with figuring out a good layout for future events so we know what to look at getting for ourselves longer term.

If you'd like a hand with loading them up or anything then I'm more than happy to lend a hand, just let me know where and when :)

Cheers,
Rich

I'll properly confirm I can get hold of them when I'm in the theatre this evening - I can see no reason why I can't, but just need to check they haven't been appropriated as the whole place is upside down while maintenance work is being done.

Presuming so, I'll bring em across to the hackspace around 10:00ish on Monday morning, and can get them back later.

Hi All,

Thanks very much to everybody who helped out at the show today, from lending equipment through to preparing stuff and being physically there to help out on site and anything in between.

I think we had a really positive day with a lot of interest from a lot of people and I can see it being an event that helps to raise our local profile, and helps to encourage word of mouth about the space. We seemed to have a lot of people who sounded very interested in the space and who seemed likely to attend an open night and/or keep track of what we are up to on social media and so on - if you are one of those people then welcome to the mailing list :D

All in all I think it's something we can definitely chalk up as a win and count as a solid invest of both time and money. Thanks again for everybody's input, and I'll see you all on Wednesday.

Cheers,
Rich

Also, thanks Rich for organising the event and getting us a stall.  I only did tech stuff, I cannot take credit for the organising :)
