Hi,

Just a dumb question, but is there a way to override the gray color for
a non selectable object? I would like to have the object to be
non-selectable, but to keep it's wire color, e.g. red.

Oh.. and can this somehow be set with scripting during creation of the
object?

In the preferences, there's a setting for changing the look of
unselected objects as a whole, but I don't think that's what you were
looking for.

As far as I know, there's no way around the dark grey on unselectable
objects. You could make similar-shaped controls out of geometry and
apply a material to it. If you make it very thin, you can probably get
away with it. (Just don't forget to make it completely
non-renderable.)

An override on coloring for unselectable objects would be nice to have
in XSI 7.0. (Listening, Softimage??) A customizable thickness on
curves would rock, too!

What about layers?    You can set the layer color and turn off selection/render/view...

Just to add some comments after the holidays.....

Layers doesn't work either, as all the objects would get the same color.

What I was trying to do was a create a measuring tool, with colored
nulls, line and text, and only the nulls selectable. But the colors
would show for the line and text, even when the "selectability" was
turned off for these objects.
As this is currently not possible, an "all selectable" version have to
do for testing.

Hey,
I just discovered that Shadow Displays don't care with selectability at all... they keep showing their selected color even if the object is not selectable.
This however just work for nulls and chains, as far as I know... So I remembered this old thread, and maybe it can help you in some way.

Talking about this... did you request Softimage to change this? it would be welcome to have the unselectable color parameter in the display property of each object (by default it could be just gray anyway).

Thanks,
tc
