Hey!

Just wanted to give a heads up on a new tool from Pixologic called FiberMesh, basically add hair grooming possibility to your sculpting.

The coolest part? It’s now exportable to MAX. I’m sure some brain on here can make the same for Softimage?

Here’s a video of FiberMesh:

And here’s the MAX FiberMesh splines exporter:

ha, charging twenty bucks, those little ....

if you don't need curves but can live with strands - try this one.

just import you fiber mesh, get an empty pointcloud and hook up the compound.
you'll have to specify the sides and segments of the original fiber mesh.

i guess it would need some more love to prepare the strands for a nice simulation, but the base is there.

have fun

i just did this example 2 weeks ago.
i don't know python very well but i was able to get it in Houdini.

from the connected geometry,  (separating each cone of hair, because that's the shape we get from z brush)
for each connected geometry
grab every X of point every Y points.
    delete everything else.
    create curve from points.
Merge results. (merge all the curves)

and can get even better.  in the script make select the first point and assign it to a cluster.  so when simulate you can use that cluster as Root with out dynamics so it follows the animation.

now the tricky part is doing it on Python. LOL....

had a little time to bring this one into shape.
if you're interested you can find an addon (or the bare compounds) with a little explanation here:
