About recommended netbooks, here are a few guidelines:
-Any model with 10.1"  screen produced in the last 2-3 years will work great, except Samsung and Sony models (and some HP/Compaqs) that have compatibility issues in terms of webcam placement and/or DC plug size. More info is here
-Windows 7 seems to be the best performance.
-Most models with 11.6" screens will fit just fine too, as long as the webcam is pretty close to center.

While it's a bit dangerous to suggest models that we haven't actually tried ourselves, we've been interested in a couple newer Asus models:  the 1018p (10.1") and 1225B (11.6") both have USB3.0 options, which should be a nice upgrade when it comes to adding peripherals (Oculus is essentially a  USB accessory, running off USB power)--there ought to be more USB bandwidth available within both systems, as well, which is essential if you ever want to add something like an Xtion sensor.  Both models are fairly new with faster processors.

If anyone's wondering about another laptop model, and it's not yet mentioned within our laptop compatibility documentation, feel free to respond to this thread and I'll reply with our opinions

-Colin

Looks like Asus has launched another netbook line with USB3.0 + USB2.0 combinations:
They'll certainly run an Oculus nicely, and should be able to run an Xtion sensor and webcam simultaneously in Windows

We've done a bit of (overdue) research on newer model laptops and updated our compatibility table: Google Docs link

Some late model 11.6" laptops have been added to the list, including some higher power machines that are definitely NOT netbooks:

-the Acer S7 ultrabook (endorsed by Megan Fox[!])
-the Asus U24E with optional Intel Core i7 processor
and
-the Lenovo IdeaPad S206
