Hi Jens,
I think we should continue to fix bugs in 2.8. I'm stilling using 2.8
(albeit with some backported components from 2.9) because it's quicker
to compile 2.8 applications, and more stable on Mac (I doubt Apple would
accept my apps anyway even if I ported them to 2.9/wxOSX so I don't lose
much). I couldn't even compile 2.9 SVN for GTK+ on Ubuntu 8.04 recently
due to GTK+ compile errors - I need to investigate the problem. But it's
safer and quicker for me to use 2.8 at the moment. I would like to
upgrade at some point but at present the risk and inconvenience (of
considerably longer compiles, on a machine I don't want to upgrade)
outweighs any benefits. That's not to say I'm ungrateful for the state
of the art being pushed!
So while most of the developers probably won't be bothering with it, I
for one am very much dependent on 2.8 for now. We don't necessarily need
an official release in order to make use of it, though it would be helpful.
Regards,
Julian
